Hubby and I are trying for our 4th little bundle of joy and I am really wanting to attempt a vbac this time. We dont have private health insurance, so unfortunately Selangor is out of the question. I was just wondering if anyone knows if Nambour Public will even look at a woman wanting a vba3c?. What are my options on the Sunshine Coast? We have also spoken about an independant midwife and homebirth.
TBH my thoughts are that they would be reluctant - they would probably prefer it if you just had a planned c/s, but it really depends on the circumstances surrounding your previous c-sections and the reasons why they were done. I think the best way to get an idea for sure would be to ask the hospital directly. Of course you might not get a straight answer...but it might give you a bit more info. Good luck!
Thanks Bon. That was my thoughts too. My first cesear was an emergency due to "failure to progress". My other two were (stupidly) elective after normal pregnancies.
It is possible anywhere, but what it comes down to is how likely they are to be supportive. THe medical facts have shown consistently that VBAC is safe after any number of CS, but many obs are still catching up (having said that I have since met several who don't fall into that category, many more are becoming supportive). As Henci Goer says, just say NO, however I was scared of saying no for the wrong reason, I had a midwife who stood up for me, and I know unofficially that a woman recently did VBA3C at Mercy in Melbourne and the ob was supportive. Make sure you have done your research, have a plan in place for each scenario so that you are prepared for what may happen, and even if you have a CS again, emergency or planned it can be on your terms, and have lots of moral support around when you are birthing, whether it is family/friend/midwife/care giver, it is your choice!!
