It's not recommended, but it doesn't warrant the disapproving looks!

Daytona - can I ask why your OB told you to do that? I'd be scared of having alcohol like that during pregnancy. I've heard of stout being good for breastfeeding, but not for pregnancy??

I'd have a social half glass on occassion while pregnant and never received any looks. But yes, it's not recommended... alcohol does cross the placenta.

The latest advice is that there is no known safe level of alcohol consumption in pregnancy.
So, it's really up to an individual what personal decision that they make.
I personally didn't drink at all throughout my pregnancies. For me it was a short amount of time to abstain for a beautiful outcome.

If you are happy with your decision try to overlook the glares.

I had the occasional glass of wine in my first pregnancy and I had one or two during my second.
Get used to other people judging you, babe. When you are pg, everyone else knows all there is to know about the best way to look after babies and they usually tell you all about it. Especially people who don't have any themselves.

There is no safe amount in pregnancy, it crosses the placenta and personally I would hate to risk a baby for the sake of a drink, but it is personal choice.

I didn't, but then I don't drink anyway so it wasn't hard for me. Actually, it was a relief not to have to defend my choice not to drink. As others have said, the isn't a 'safe' level of alcohol in pregnancy. Alcohol doesn't get 'filtered', whatever is in your blood will be in your babies blood. But ultimately it is up to you. Tell them to back off, as it is your choice and your decision, and its not like they have to live with the decision, so none of their business.

Well when I found out I was pg, I was so shocked I had a glass
But since then, nope and Im soooooooooooo looking forward to having one with a friend in the sun with the kids playing and a bbq cooking!!! Thats my craving
A friend of mine drank the occasional glass while pg with her son. He's fine.
My therory is I'll do everything I possibly can do the 'right' way. It's only for 9months

TBH I really dont think that glass has in anyway hurt your unborn. Its just my choice not to

It really is personal choice and i don't believe anyone should give you those horrible looks.

I personally have had a small (half glass) at family functions etc, a couple of weeks ago a friend was over and i treated myself to a WHOLE glass of wine and some chocolate.
I went for champers... OOPS watch the bubbles, red would prob be best if you were going to have a glass but it's your choice.

I know there are lots of risks involved but i think back to the fact we had a MASSIVE Aus Day weekend before i knew i was PG with DD, i wrote myself off completely, the first thing i said to my Dr was OMG what have i done.. he told me the likely hood of anything happening was minimal.. just don't make it a regular occurance!

I prob haven't helped but it really is personal choice, if it's only 1 glass or half a glass every now and then... ENJOY IT!

Bugger I didn't get to see the first bit.

However I just wanted to say, after a particularly hairy scan i jokingly said to my ob that I needed a stiff drink and he said that one very occasionally wouldn't hurt.

I plan on having a small glass at my baby shower.

Just putting it out there not knowing what was said initially but I hope this helps a bit
