I would grab two just to be on the safe side, the worst thing would be to risk it and then have to try to get out to get more, you can always get rid of excess to friends or rellies...

DS was in the newborns for about 6 weeks before we switched to the next size up...

Depends on size of bub... unfortunately you can't really tell until they arrive!
We knew we were expecting a 'bigg-ish' baby but didn't expect the whopper we got - she was 4.7kg (10lb8) and she was in newborn nappies for about 4 weeks. One box did us fine, we used that & then went up. I prefer putting them in a nappy that's a bit big rather than a bit small, kwim?
But if you have too many, as Charmalea said you can always give them away
the other thing you could do is buy one box, and a couple of smaller bags - one newborn size, one the next size up, then you can return what you don't use later? Most supermarkets will be happy to exchange for a different size.

thanks girls I was thinking 2 boxes the thing is all my friends babies have just turned one so they wont need the excess ones

Jack was 8lbs 12.5oz he was a GD bub this one isnt so that should account for weight wise I imagine

Jasp I dont know what we are having hence the dilemma of how many newborn we use huggies

I would get 2 boxes, and if you still have your terry flats you can use them if you run out!

Could you get one each infant boys & girls? Might seem a bit excessive I guess, but if you can return what you don't need....

We only used the free pack the hospital gave us for Imran. If they hadn't been handed to us at the hospital he probably would have gone straight into the next size up.

why dont you buy one box and then a packet of the size up? i know baby love do an in between size which is 3-8kg or something like that (as well as their newborn ones) - i found these great when he just grew out of newborn as these fit but werent swimmimg on him. I knowyou use huggies but i find these excellent ad could be perfect for your situation as they will fit for a while and can be used when they are tiny too.
FWIW I used about 2-3 boxes equiv of newborn nappies with DS2 who was 3.19 kg (so a touch under 7lbs)

    thanks girls

I think I will grab 2 boxes and just go with the flow I can get them at the IGA here its just the $$$ of them, if I run out well ... I'll just starting using flats earlier I suppose

I would go the next size up but it could be 6 weeks or more before we are back in town to return etc, and well the way return systems work now adays it would be a pain

Target have the 108 box for $33 for the next 2 weeks. I will be getting 2. One of my friends likes to make nappy cakes so will give her any I have leftover.
Also figure I may get a smaller pack or 2 at shower.
Loving the idea of swapping for next size if necessary, you girls are so clever I have found so many ideas here.

You can always put the second box on ebay or something

They were still giving pack of NB huggies with bounty bags when I had DD1. MCHN would give me a bag or 2 every time I saw her! It was great! I bought 1 box, then no more til she was in the next size.
By the time DD2 came along, it was only 2 nappies in the bags, & now some places don't even do bounty bags any more.
