Just wondering if anyone has any tips for controlling hayfever while pregnant. Pharmasist was reluctant to give me anything. I rang the WCH hospital pharmacy and they suggest Polaramine, though that apparently makes you drowsy and not advisable to drive while taking it.
Any suggestions on alternative/natural remedies are greatly appreciated....at moment I'm covered in Vicks to try and unblock my nose.
Sorry Pheonix I can't help you here. I was told with DD they couldn't give me anything and I didn't even think to ask about natural remedies. Hope you find something soon!
I have been taking Polaromine while Breast feeding. It hasn't made me drowsy at all, but I suppose it is different for everyone. I am pretty sure I saw a Hayfever Relief made by Brauers (herbal) when I was at the health food store the other day.
ETA: I just googled and Brauer do a hayfever nasal spray and tablets. Check with your local stockist of its ok to use while pregnant.
I was researching this the other day - apparently extra Vit C can be of benefit, but the other main thing I discovered (was on Oprah too actually) is the neti pot - you get them at the chemist. put warm salty water in this mini teapot thing, and you pour it into your nose (hard to explain but water flushes out your sinus and comes out the other nostril - very easy to do!) . Apparently it is really effective if you do it every day.
I ended up getting some Polaramine which even if it doesn't clear the nose as good as zyrtec or any of the others, seems to be keeping me from wanting to claw my eyes out. I got a FESS saline nasal spray too which helps the nose so coping
Must admit I had a bit of a tantrum at the pharmacist the other day - not his fault coz he didn't originally serve me. I went in and specifically asked for Polaramine - she got me to repeat it 3 times. She gave me Fernergan and coz I was desperate for relief went home and took one - did some googling later and found what she'd given me was a Class C drug not happy I can tell you!
Will definately go and check out the Brauer one too and will make sure it's safe to take - prefer that to the drugs i i can help it.
