Im just posting this for a friend who is having some issues with her dd at the moment. I never went through this with ds so i dont really know what advice to give her and its really getting her down so i would like to help in some way if i can.
Her dd is very clingy at the moment, doesn't really want to be with anyone but my friend ( who i will call L) and L's mum. She is having real problems getting dd to go to sleep at night also. She manages to settle her in her arms but when she puts her down she will scream until L picks her up when she will be happy and start trying to make her laugh etc. Very cute but tiring none the less.
DD also doesn't want to go to df if L is around. L was saying that DF got up with dd one morning on the weekend and she was happy till L got up then she got whingy and didn't want a bar of DF. This is obviously upsetting df quite a bit also.
I suspect that it may be due to dd being tired when df gets home ( he works long hours and gets home around 7pm) but obviously L needs a break and df wants to help but feels useless as dd only wants L.
Has anyone been through this situation and have any tips on how to help settle a baby in bed and how to get past the clingyness toward one parent over the other. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Tell her to sling bubs and ride it out. Its a phase they go through. Miss M is still going through it now, and prefers to be with me over any other person - absolutely screams the house down if DH takes her off me so I can do something.
Hopefully its short lived for her, because there isn't much you can do unfortunately!! When she wants to be picked up, I pick her up, when she wants to come with me, she comes with me. I didn't do it with DS and I swear it made it last even longer. He's only just starting to not be so clingy to me now, more independent, play by himself etc - and he'll be 3 in January!!!
My DD is a total mummy's girl. She'll often cry louder when DH picks her up, but then quieten instantly when she's in my arms. Scary.
I have found it is worse when DD is in pain, like teething or sickness, or when she's really tired.
As for crying as soon as she is put down. DD did this a few weeks ago, and I just thought she was unwell and so co-slept and held her while she slept. It passed really quickly!
Don't know if this helps, but she should know she's not alone!
