Question When did you do it all???

Setting up the cot that is

I splurged yesterday in a major way and got a whole heap of linen and stuff and I was just wondering when do you actually wash the underlays blankies etc and actually set up the cot with bedding? Did you use normal detergent or something fragrance free??

Also when did you wash your baby clothes the ones that you took into hospital? again what type of detergent normal stuff like omo or fragrance free type ones like eco store (well not fragrance free but not heavily perfumed iykwim)

I am just chomping at the bit here

I am pretty sure i did it all about a month before DD was born, but then we moved anyway 2 days before she was born, so washed a few things in her cupboard again.
I had my bag packed for a while with some of her clothes in there though.

I used and still use the PURITY range of washing liquids for DD, she gets eczema so don't use much perfumed stuff.

HTH.. have fun with it all, no harm in setting up now and washing stuff again closer to the date if bubs hasn't come yet and your worried!

    I couldn't resist!

We've set up the cot & change table only this week - I think I'll be washing the linen and baby clothes maybe 2-3 weeks prior? Soooo exciting!!

I just finished washing clothes and bedding and putting it all together and I'm just past 35 weeks... We used our usual detergent (don't want to borrow trouble and use a special one unless he turns out to need it) just less of it - I think half quantities? - the stuff was just shop-chemical-y etc rather than dirty.

    Hey NaeNae!
Not long to go now! hehe
I set our cot up around... 27 weeks, haha, but i was so excited, couldn't help myself. I've washed all the clothes i have for bub, all the little blankets.. everything basically! Whenever there is a sunny day i take advantage of it (baby things always smell nicer when line dried).

I'm a sucker for LUX soap flakes - it realllllly smells like a baby iykwim - makes me melt everytime! It can be a pain in the bum to wash with (you have to disolve it first), but the smell is totally worth it. Its biodegradable and the ABC radio channel actually recommends pumping it from the washing machine onto your lawn (apparently it helps retain water to keep your lawn nice and green - but i haven't tried this yet). Actually, now i have most things in the bubs room washed, when i walk in there the smell of baby just hits me... its soo beautiful and makes butterflies in my tummy! haha - makes everything so real

    wow.. i'm really blabbing on
    sorry!!

We jumped the gun with this one cause I had everything washed aroudn 28 weeks! With DD it was around 32-33 weeks I think. We sue regular soap powder on baby clothes but when I do the first wash I use fabric softener too. Just lazy I guess!! And never noticed an issue with it. I LOVE setting up the nursery!

I always set it up around 30weeks and then I just gave the bedding a quick wash a few weeks before to make sure it was fresh..

I always just used normal washing powder but didn't use as much..

    HI Nae

I have been washing all the baby clothes and bedding today. Well, I did start last week but I bought the lux flakes to use, but found them a big pain! you have to disolve them in boiling water, which I did, but I found it left the clothes with a bit of residue on them. So I went and bought Purity laundry liquid(sensitive) and I found it to be much better (I prefer the smell too).
A lot of people seem to like lux flakes, I just personally don't

The cot has been set up for a few weeks now.

I did the nursery and clothes about a month before DD was born. I use Amolin washing detergent for her clothes, blankets etc and earth choice or purity softner as the water here is quite harsh.

Just do it all when you're ready - but make sure you leave time at the end to relax!!

I am 24wks, DP insisted on setting the cot up at about 5wks but I said NO and he put it up at about 14wks. We have sheets, mattress all on layby with most of the bedding, but all the baby clothes I have started washing bit by bit from about 20wks on. I am so tired all the time that I hope to have it all set up and ready by 30wk mark so then I can put my feet up.

We will be moving house so it will be around 34 weeks for me. I'm more concerned to get my bag packed because I had a dream I went into labour and my bag wasn't packed. Silly I know.

I was 2 weeks early and had only moved house a week before E was born so I didn't set it up til 2 weeks after she was home.

In saying that however, E sleeps in a bassinette in our room and probably will continue to do so til she starts rolling over. I had already washed all the sheets etc, and they are on her cot looking gorgeous, but I will rewash them before she starts sleeping in it.

I use Amolin baby wash, and find it makes all her clothes smell fresh and lovely, and gets them nice and soft. I washed all her clothes up at about 35 weeks.

Not too much longer to go for you, good luck!
