My job requires me to travel interstate every so often, but I don't necessarily feel comfortable about flying during my pregnancy. I have been told that flying won't do any harm, but I'm being unnecessarily cautious because of my previous mc. And not only that, I haven't been feeling too well with the nausea and extreme fatigue.
Thing is no-one at work knows about me being pregnant and I don't really want to tell anyone until the 1st tri is over.
So my question is...should I just go? Or do I tell my boss the truth and not go?
I guess it probably depends on your relationship with your boss and how you are likely to be treated / how it will affect your ability to work... but I would be inclined to tell him/her. No need to tell anyone else - could just say you have a 'medical issue' you'd rather not discuss. If you're not comfortable, I'd say that your feelings, and your baby's welfare come first.
Congrats to you and I wish you a happy and healthy pregnancy
You should be able to approach your boss if he or she is a decent one, and discuss your concerns in a private conversation. Provided you dont tell anyone else, you will have only one source for it to get out iykwim...
I am obviously not aware of your situation or past medical issues but just also wanted to say I have ridden in a few planes, a military hellicopter (with my legs dangling out the back...very cool) and taken a looong road trip in this pg. Having said that I have not had a mc and dont pretend to know what it is like...
You have to do what is right for you and no one can imagine your particular position so maybe just consider:
If you think the trips will be only be every now and then, maybe consider going on the next one just to keep the secret a little longer?
Do you really want to start saying no to your job duties now at 6 weeks? I have worked with a few ppl who opt not to do their job description due to pregnancy and everyone (whether they should or shouldnt) gets a bit sick of it. Its a looong 9 months for everyone involved.
Good luck with your decision and once again congrats
Flying in the first two triemsters is perfectly safe and the only reason they don't like you to travel in your third is incase you go in labour, but in saying all of that, being sick on a plane is the worst! I travelled to the UK when I was 14 weeks pg with DD and still suffering from m/s... It was just horrible and I am so put off going back to KL air port just because it is a complete reminder of how terrible I was
Your boss has an obligation to you to keep the information confidential until you make it common knowledge. The only reason he may have to tell someone is if another boss or somebody in a high position needs to know why you are no longer travelling. Just make sure you do say that you will not be telling anyone else for several weeks to come yet. I had to do the same with my boss as my job does involve some heavy lifting, when I give her the A OK then she knows I'm telling people.
Congrats on your preg, I wish you a very H&H 9 months. I hope you don't get too sick.
I definitely didn't want to tell anyone about it, but my boss is pretty easy going. So today in conversation he asked me about our plans to have children and I used to opportunity to tell him. As soon as I said it, he told me that he didn't want me to go (he knew about my mc). He said he didn't want me to take any chances. He was actually pretty good with it all.
So problem solved, even if I wanted to go he wouldn't allow it! On the same note I don't want any special treatment iykwim and I did mention that to him.
