leaving your toddler overnight (or 3 nights to be exact)
OK so I just need some advice and opinions please. I really, really want to go away next June long weekend. DS will be 27 mnths. Have you left your toddler overnight? how did you prepare everyone? how did your toddler react.
I am really worried that DS and DP just won't cope with each other and as I plan on going interstate I just can't come home if they need it.
I am DS main carer, dp doesn't believe that anyone but dp or myself should watch him so I watch him 95% of the time. DP has never really settled DS overnight. DS is still bf about 2 or 3 times a night and while I hope that he is weaned by then he loves his 'boo' and it wouldn't surprise me if he is still feeding
Practise hun. As much as possible!
Start going & staying a night away at a time. Close by so you are there in case you are desperately needed.
Both my girls were used to it pretty early on, being easier since they were on the bottle, but Jesse still has trouble. Its actually been a while since he stayed at mum & dad's so I reckon he'd have gone backwards...
He'll be alot older, so it'll be a bit easier
DH & DS had an awesome time together when I went to Melbourne when he was aorund 27 months as well. I left Friday afternoon & got back Sunday night. He came to the airport & was more interested in the planes then me & daddy bought him an ice cream on the way home so he was fine
We were the same in that I was the main carer & even though DH tried to settle DS he wouldn't have a bar of it normally. I think though because he knew I wasn't available he just dealt with daddy being the one to comfort him at the time.
Just a warning though... Even though it will be great fun for him (and you ) he might be cranky when you get home. Zander wouldn't talk to me & was cross all the way home, I think he was punishing me for leaving! But when I got home I gave him a special present I got when I was away & he was fine again
thanks ladies, I just have to convince dp they will be ok
I am going out for tea tonight but will be home by midnight but I have my sisters wedding coming up so there is the hen's night and the wedding night and I am sure a night or 2 thrown in there somewhere for dp to practice.
I think he and you and guys will be fine!! DD had her first 2 night stay in Aug (she was 23 months) and had a ball. Barely missed us!! We missed her but not overly because we had things to do - sleep-in!! And a wedding and shopping. We really enjoyed ourselves and appreciated the time-out which you just don't get! It also made us appreciate her even more! Practise before then but I'm sure it will be okay!
