    3D 4D scans

first of all what is the difference between a 3D scan and a 4D scan?
secondly, how do i go about getting one for my pregnancy. i am currently 21 weeks and live in brisbane and am doing shared care at the Royal Brisbane hospital.

i have heard you have to pay for them, but a friend of mine got a 34 week scan at the public hospital to check on her placenta previa and the print outs they gave her were in black and white but looked like 3D images and it was free.

I was confused about this too – I was thinking "what an earth can 4D be?!".

Basically the 4th dimension is time.

Someone had to explain it to me!

It's the difference between a still photograph and a video - so the 3D image is continuously updated providing a 'live action' view - this is 4D.

All my scans have been the regular 2D ones. I'm quite happy with this. Although I have had a 3D/4D place recommended to me ... I will think about it if I decide I want to see bubs again.

I just read you're in Brisbane. This is the place that was recommended to me - Specialised Obstetric + Gynaecological Imaging ... Just Google "sogi southbank" and you'll find the website.

Apparently it's $300 but the lady who told me about it said she went after she had reached her Medicare Safety Net and she only had to pay $40.

I had the 3D / 4D scans done (Adelaide) and I thought they were great and defiantely worth it for us. Emerson was awake the whole time and we've got a great DVD of him yawning, pointing his fingers, waving, sticking his tongue out and licking his hands... It really is amazing. We got several pictures in different sizes as well. Our package was $150 but there was no medicare benefit from it. The place we went to needed no referral - just rang up and made an appt. Not sure how other places work though which isn't helpful to you LOL.

If you want to take a closer look at the photos let me know and I'll PM you the password to my site.

Yeah I guess that's right … time or movement. I read it was "time" on the Net. But I suppose it sort of means the same thing??? Basically it's not a still image.

I think that's the concept Fee - so the DVD you get is in 4D but the still pictures they take from the DVD is actually 3D.

... this is beginning the get like the pregnancy maths subject LOL
