21 weeks now...any point to a toxoplasmosis screen?

    Hello all,

I grew up with indoor/outdoor/catflap cats, have always loved gardening, always handled uncooked meat and we take in foster kittens from the shelter I dog walk for...

My question is, should I bother getting a screen for toxo? It's been on my mind all this pregnancy but I know that if I get a positive, I may have had an exposure 10 years ago which would have no consequence on this pregnancy but the not knowing if I have had a primary exposure during this pregnancy would drive me nuts as a positive result would show that I have been exposed, but not when. A negative would just mean I haven't been infected over the years.

I hear of vets and vet nurses working with cats for decades and never picking it up and other stories of people getting pregnant and then getting rid of their cats...kinda stuck. I can get a walk in spot at the doc in about 2 hours if I want it....opinions please!

I've never gotten tested for it, and I have two indoor cats and I clean their litter tray regularly. I say just be careful and wash your hands thoroughly if you come into contact with anything iffy - you'll be right.

I personally wouldn't bother - I was in a similar situation and figured I would have been exposed years ago, so therefore no problem... I don't think it's something that you can get re-infected by.

I agree with the others. I don't think there is any point, you were probably exposed years ago and will have developed immunity.

I was worried about this because we got our kitty when we went through IVF but I researched it and am not worried now. DH cleans the litter - I stay away from it.

    Should be fine hun
