swaddle to sleeping bag - how to??? do i need to?

    Hi All
DS2 loves being wrapped to go to sleep and so far it has worked really well for us - he is a good self settler and a pretty good sleeper and being wrapped tightly is a def sleep cue for him..
Prob is he is getting strong and wriggly and sometimes tries to get his arms out... and the other night i found he had done so and his face was covered in the covers.. so i think i have to stop wrapping and move to a sleeping bag..
With DS1 (who wasnt a fan of the swaddle) i went cold turkey and it was ok (tho in hindsight he wasnt a v good sleeper - stil isnt)... tried this last night with DS2 - he didnt mind going in the bag but lay there playing with his hands, sucking his fists and flailing his arms around for about 40 mins (happy) - i then went in and wrapped him ad he went immediately to sleep...
So you experts out there - what do i do to 'wean' off the wrapping and get him into a bag... (and do you have any other ideas what i could do instead??)

I did it by wrapping my DD from the armpits down and then put her in the sleeping bag, once she was fine with that then I wrapped her less snugly and finally not at all.

I stopped wrapping DS1 when he no longer liked his arms in (he would fight to get them out) and he was rolling.
If bub rolls on to their belly and arms are wrapped, then they may not be able to roll back.

So I did the same thing as Nai has described above, and DS1 was about 5 months old.

For DS2, he hated his arms in from word go, so I stopped wrapping him at 5 weeks and he has been fine in a sleeping bag since then.

You could try putting him in the sleeping bag, but just wrapping one arm in and leave the other out while he gets used to it, then just wrap under the armpits, then no wrapping at all.

Transitions are hard! Hope it all works out well!

We did similar to what Amberj has said with our twins. We put them in the sleeping bag then put the wrap over it with one arm out for a few nights, then under the arms for a few nights then took it away. By this time they were used to the sleeping bag being their sleep cue and were quite happy to go to bed without the warp. My two still love their sleeping bags and when I bring them out and put them on the floor to get the kids into them ready for bed they both race over and lay down on their bag, so it definately worked for us as a sleep cue.

For night, I wrap Eva with one arm wrapped up and the other free. I use a muslin wrap to swaddle and then I tightly tuck a light blanket across her under the arms. For day I have been wrapping her under her arms. I have a sleeping bag but I won't use this until Eva is in a cot

I just stopped wrapping DD about wk ago! So 7 months. It's getting too hot here. Took about a week and I just did it gradually 1 arm at a time too.

I've seen this on youtube. Hope I'm allowed to post it: Amazing Miracle Blanket:: The Guaranteed Baby Swaddle Blanket

Seems to be a way to keep them wrapped up.
