I was just out walking with DD (14months) she normally walks on the grass or sand down by the river but happened to be walking on the pavement and she tripped and cracked her head on the ground!! she didnt really cry much but it instantly came up in a red spotty blotch and withing a few mins was a big purple egg about half the size of a ping pong ball!!
she seams fine but im worried, its was right on bed time when she did it and i kept her up for about 20mins to keep and eye on her but she was too tired (been up since 5) normal tired...nothing really out of the ordinary. but im still worried!!
I'd just keep an eye on her for the rest of the day, make sure she's not too groggy or anything (anything besides what is normal for her). Their heads are pretty hard so its pretty hard for them to get concussion
Ava has done the same thing! We took her straight to the doctor cause dp came home and I was crying hysterically, ava was walking around like err wtf are you crying about mum lol. So we took her to the doc and they said if you picture a band around their forehead and to the back of their head that's the strongest part. The temples and the back bottom of the head (near your neck) is the part you don't want to hit. THey sat there pushing on this massive purple egg and ava didn't even flinch. It' was a hematoma. All they said is keep her up for like maybe 1.5 hours not to let her sleep and just keep an eye on her. If she starts vomitting blood or anything then take her to the hospy

Sorry...double post!! thanks kristy_lee ( you got in there while i was writing the 1st reply) good to know im not the only one to panic! its right on the front of her head above her eye! looks like a horn. just checked on her and she is ok. thanks!!
Bit of advice I got from a nurse (rellie) when my son fell and smacked his head on concrete.. He had a huge egg.. she said still watch out but more often if a lump appears then it isn't of a concern.. It is more concerning if they whack thier head but no lump appears
DD fell off of our bed when she was 6ish months old. I FREAKED out, took her to the emergency dept. The dr's there told me if they cry when it happens, thats a good sign. If they don't cry, and then start to vomit - thats the time to freak out. They also said what aussienic has already posted - having a lump is also a good sign

Yep, happens here all the time, seems she always has a graze on her forehead! But everyone has already given you the good advice, just keep an eye on her, but she is probably fine.
I agree with Kirsty-lee and the rest of you.
Just keep an eye on it and make sure DD doesn't vomit or struggles to keep her balance when she wakes up...
thanks all! she is ok, was a bit grumpy this arvo, but probably nothing to do with the bump....the egg is a lovely purple colour but has gone down a little! she even thought it was funny to point at it and say ooowwww when her daddy came home from work....which was pretty funny! feeling much better about it now....but keep checking her ever hour or so now she is asleep!!
My DD smacked her head on a doorframe a few months ago and had a MASSIVE blue egg there. We went to A&E because it looked so terrible but in the end it was all fine. However, when that blood-filled lump went down it resulted in 2 beautiful black eyes, and i got a LOT of strange looks whenever we went out in public! LOL.
