Got 2 bumwear pockets but I don't know if I trust them as they seem really light weight. Anyone else used these? Will give them a go but might have to invest in some boosters.
with pockets, the pocket SHELLS are light, just made out of PUL, so that's fine. They dry fast (good).

it's what you STUFF the pockets with, that makes all the difference.

e.g stuff them with a thirsty bamboo trifold, that will beef them up. e,g the peapod bamboo inserts,

(every brand calls them something different (foldups, inserts, trifolds etc)
but the guts of it is, you should see
    - two layers of bamboo
    - shaped like a rectangle
    - you fold it in three, to a width that is as WIDE as the NARROWEST part of the nappy's pocket cavity. sounds more complicated than it is. You are making the trifold into a pad.

the "quiet achiever" of mcn is the ABSORBENT fabric used.
boosters, inserts etc are nonglam, so it's easy to forget to buy those.
not as exciting as nappy outers are they? cos you don't see them.
but really, the success of a nappy can largely come down to, the type and amount of absorbency HIDDEN in that nappy.

some pockets come with a microfibre insert, but for most kids, that won't be enough for their entire nappying life. My bilby needed more than that in the first six months, but maybe she was a super wee-er.

but you can't go past, a good stash of bamboo trifolds. so useful. esp with stuffing pockets.

Having said all that, PUL does come in varying grades.
Have a look at a site that sells nappymaking supplies to see what i mean.

you can get 1mm PUL (like berry plush covers use)
you can get 2mm PUL (most commonly used)
you can get sandwich PUL (two layers stuck together), that's the one that baby beehinds PUL covers are made out of)
you can get cotton laminated PUL (that happy heiny and greenkids suggests you use as day nappies only)
you can get poly laminated PUL
you can get minky laminated PUL

(all this trivia in my head, pity i coudln't have trivia in my head that was useful, like to win me lotsa money on a quiz show!)

Thanks for the info, new to pockets as i've been using AIOs mostly. Came with a terry microfibre insert thingo but my daughter is miss piddlesalot so that's why i'm iffy. was eyeing off some bamboo trifolds to avoid mass floodage as I know she is quite capable of doing. On the bright side I know she is getting enough fluids

Editing with an afterthought. My little one hates her BBH and gets annoyed everytime I put them on, would it work to use those bamboo boosters for the time being? I mean coupled with the microfibre insert supplied. Saving as much cash as possible to buy furniture for the new house so we don't have to eat christmas dinner on the dining room floor

thanks for the idea Mel. will give that ago next time! I do have a snap press (had grand plans of making nappies bnuut no time lol) so I can try that if snapping doesnt work! I've just put a Hautes one-size pocket on her...had to fold down to the smallest size so can only use the small insert that came with it bt should be enough for now! Ithink the legs are pretty good but prob could be tighter. overall looks good but I'm not confident we aren't gonna have wing issues as she starts to wriggle in them.

so heres a question...those with Skinny bubs (Im gonna place Susie in that category...she seems really trim round the waist and legs unlike her mum lol) what have you found to be your fav nappies for fit?

missymoo - congratulations!! thats wonderful news!! hoping for a safe preg and birth for you!

Hmm mine are skinny bubs. I think the best fitting ones are my bumg's... GF's (customised for them though).. Bundles of Buns (again - customised) and most side snapping nappies - side snapping ones tend to fit better on skinny bubs - especially if they are built like mine - no hips, no bum - nothing!!

Yeah bumg is bumgenius. I used both the sized ones and the OSFM pockets - both were fine on my kids. A little wide in the crotch area, but it never caused any leaks.

Hey MrsC.....my DS is pretty heavy but definately has no butt either and is quite a heavy wetter!! I have found the BumG OSFM pockets to be really good....also the PopIn (version1, very trim) and Green Kids (pretty bulky)...not sure Ive really noticed wing droop in anything weve tried so far tho. Ecobubs have been great for us too, but they are sized. I have 4 GK's now, if you would like I could loan you one to try before you buy any...it can be such a pain buying heaps of nappies that dont suit!!

After abit of advice for any MiniLala users??? I won one the other day (Yay me lol). So Ive pre-washed it and naturally the bamboo inserts have shrunk abit...compared to other nappies they now seem really skinny for the pocket....anyone had any dramas with that??? Also being a cotton outer should I treat them more like a GK funtime and not expect a huge amount of time out of them????

*sighs* it can be so expensive can't it! just feels like I'm doing my head in lol! I want to get whats going to fit her best and not be too expensive. I'm not fussed if they are mostly boring...then the other thing is should I just look at going fitteds and cover. sorry...head is just going BANG atm!

so far the haute osfa pocket hasn't had a wing droop on her..wonder if thats cause the underneath bit with the wings sits a bit higher...so thats a positive. I need to take a break I think!

ETA: Helen - thanks for the suggestions! and for the offer, am quite a ways away down here in vic though, wouldnt want it to get lost in the post on you or something! I have got a $5 voucher for cloth my bot so maybe I should get a bumg and see what we think.

MrsC I was totally the same...very nearly gave up on cloth cos it was driving me nuts lol but now I have a handful of brands that work so I wont buy anything else just incase lol

Fitteds I find the Cute tooshie or mandy mac ones really good (and they are both OSFM) I just usually use them for DS's big arvo nap cos he ends up with a huge butt but I can trust them for much longer

If youre worried about the post, I have a GK Anytimes I picked up cheap on buy4baby which I can send over...so its not like its one of my new minkytimes lol
