Red face Stressed about the whole not crawling thing!

OK Bella is 10.5 months old and is not crawling yet - she gets up on her hands and knees and rocks, can shuffle back wards and can even bum shuffle if she wants to get somewhere or somthing, Im ok with that.

She REALLY likes standing and holding onto the tables , couches ect and she would prefer to hold your hands and walk eveywhere! She is an excellent walker - she has really got the hang of that and can even ballance holding one hand and walking - she just doesnt have the complete ballance to do it by herself yet.

So is my baby girl just going to bypass the whole crawling thing and go straight to walking?? I was ok with it but in the last few weeks I have been bombarded with ppl saying "Oh no she HAS to crawl - its a milestone" and "not crawling means there is somthing developmentlay wrong with her"....

She is ok huh?? Feel free to slap me and tell me to STOP worrying again!!

    TIA

My DD1 did similiar - she never crawled just got up and walked - I got stressed out about the same stuff but you know what, she did it the right way for her!
#2 has just started to crawl here - she's a month older than Bella - she was looking like just walking too.

It's normal to worry - Bella will crawl/walk etc her own way! xxx

*SLAP* stop worrying. I personally never crawled only bum shuffled. Kameron only started commando crawling at 10mths and he never crawled properly, until he was 14mths old.

Bah, there are plenty of babies that skip the crawling stage and are absolutely, perfectly fine. In fact, I seem to recall hearing or reading somewhere that the number of kids doing this is increasing- I *think* they said this has to do with the fact we now sleep them on their backs right from the start (sorry, can't quite recall the why, but I am sure that more and more kids are skipping crawling).

I believe the "concern" about not crawling is learning the 'cross-coordination' skill- ie- moving one leg while moving the opposite arm, which is a good brain development. But there are other ways to learn this skill and not crawling does not mean your child is not developing properly.

I think your LO sounds like she's doing great. She may well end up crawling- my DS was much the same and ended up crawling like a fiend. But even if she doesn't, it all sounds perfectly fine. Try not to worry (hard as it is!).

As Jessica said, the biggest concern with not crawling and going straight to walking is the cross co-ordination, but that can be learnt later, so you don't need to stress.

It might be a development milestone, but you have the walking one a lot earlier than some.. even if she isn't confident on her own yet, it won't be long..

My girls were never crawlers - crawled for a month then walked - all around 14 mths.

My DD#3 was not WALKING or CRAWLING on her 1st birthday.......she didnt crawl till 14 mths, and didnt walk till 16.5mths......so dont stress.....she may not be the majority, but she is certainly normal!!!!!

My DD got to about 10 months and I thought she'd bypass crawling but then she just started to crawl.
    You never know.
    I thought crawling wasn't a milestone?

Your DD sounds like she's doing exactly what she should be! I've heard heaps of stories where babies bypass crawling and go straight to walking - it doesn't mean there's anything wrong. What is important is that she is working out a way to get places - it doesn't matter how she does it.

She sounds like my DD Kate, didn't crawl till AFTER she could walk, and then it was kind of a half-sitting crab crawl - just to get to the wall so she could stand up and walk. I got stressed about that whole issue too, but I figured she crawled after she walked so that's fine isn't it? And now I see people saying that crawling isn't even a milestone
Don't sweat it babe, she sounds like she's going great guns

Pip never crawled until he was walking - he got around by rolling everywhere and whomping around corners! He would roll faster than I could walk!

Kate, you'll love it when she walks. You'll be so proud. I still love watching Beth walking and she's been at it for four and a half months now. There's nothing better than watching your baby walking (or running) towards you with her arms out for a cuddle!

Kate, Bella sounds so much like Sam it's not funny. He'd spend his day standing up if you let him - he just loves it. Cruises the furniture and will walk a little if we hold his hands. Crawling, forget it.

I have heard mention of the cross-coordination thing and that not crawling can lead to clumsiness later in life, but I figure when he's older we can play games crawling around to overcome it (pretending to be animals, etc) and we'll just do what he's happy doing for now.
