14 weeks and barely sleeping in the day time

    Hi,

DD3 is 14 weeks and has decided that sleep in the day time is not required. I am pretty much trying all sorts of things. I watch for tired signs, then promptly put her down. If she does go down she only sleeps for 30 mins. I swaddle, pat, rock, feed, feed and feed. She is happy to dose on the breast but wakes bright and chirpy the minute she comes off or I put her down.

Finally she'll fall asleep ( up to 9 hours after her last sleep) and she'll do 3 to 4 hours.

She is sleeping in 3 to 4 hour blocks over night. Usually she wakes around 2am and stays awake for a minimum of one hour.

    any suggestions?????

My DS is usually pretty much the same...except for the past week or so I have been putting him "to sleep" during the day on the lounge and he is sleeping for 45min to 2hours!!!! He lies on his side - but is checked on lots and has props to stop him rolling on his tummy. I periodically try to put him in his cot for a sleep - but he just wakes up immediately. He sleeps in there no probs at night.

My firstborn never slept in the day....45 mins max was her nap time. She would cat nap in the car, or in her rocker, but she was never a baby that would sleep for 1-2 hrs.
How is she in the day??? Cranky ?? Content ???
Is she falling alseep on the boob ?? Maybe then waking after 30 mins wondering where the boob is ??

Dont beat yourself up about it. You cant make them sleep. Now H roughly has 3 sleeps a day. If i find hes going to fight it, or it jsut aint gonna happen, i bring him back out on his play mat, let him have his time, then try again in 30-45 mins...like you, i dont have time to pat and rock and sit with him whilst he does decide to go to sleep...

Good work on the 3-4hr chunk of sleep at night though.....better than here....

Ohhh Bek. I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with Miss E sleeping. I TRULY understand how hard it is.

How long has this been going on? I remember at one point she was doing 5 hour blocks during the day?! Is she able to self settle or are you doing other things to get her to sleep initially?

Around the 4 month mark lots of babies have a period of sleep regression - do you think this could be the case?

It sounds to me like you're doing all the right things and as much as it sucks, this might just be a 'ride it out' situation.

    really hope things improve soon.

It is very hard when they don't sleep. But I agree - you can't force it. Is this a recent thing - might just be a phase.

Will she sleep in the pram or car at all? How about a wrap/sling? Sometimes mixing it up a bit will help.

Hopefully you can ride it out fairly quickly....

My lil one will sleep right through the night (since 8 weeks) and will only powernap in the day. She's quite content with little sleep but it does make it difficult to get stuff done

MBear - She is really happy most and content most of the day. Yes she falls asleep on the boob and wakes 30mins later, usually smiling her little face off

I have been beating myself up about not getting her into regular sleep. I've been doing the same as you. If I see it aint going to happen I just bring her out and let her keep playing.

Good work on the 3-4hr chunk of sleep at night though.....better than here....
I hope H starts to sleep for you at night more

Her lack of day time sleep started around 2/3 weeks ago

    Not sure

Yeah I think I'll just keep trying to put her down and go with the flow lol

    really hope things improve soon.
