Question Wanting to go to bed later - 10.5 mnth old.

DD has always gone to bed for the night at 6.30 - 7pm from when she was 3 months old and started sleeping through.

But as of the last month or two it has been creeping later and later and now it would be any where between 8.30 and 10pm! She still sleeps through till 7-8am.

Is this a phase that she is going through?? Is she just more aware of things now that she wants to stay up with Mummy and Daddy longer?? Most nights she is happy to play with her toys while I make tea and while we eat tea but some nights she will be SO tiered that she is rubbing her eyes and pulling her ears, so I will put her to bed and she just screams blue murder!

Last night she screamed for about and 1 1/2 hrs and eventually passed out! I dont want to have to go through that evey night!

If I put her to bed after her bottle she will go to sleep but will wake up about an hr ealier and has fully re-charged batteries and will stay up half the night!

Oh and she has 6 teeth through now and a big one at the top about to burst through - so maybe thats why she is unsettled??

Dont know how to make her go to bed earlier - or does she not need her 13 hrs a night like she was getting?? She has 2-3 2+ hrs sleeps during the day as well.

Sorry forthe ramble! Any advice would be appreciated!

I don't know but maybe you're right, maybe she doesn't need as much? Maybe not as much day sleep. DD is 7.5m and she is have 2 day sleeps usually less than an hr and sleeps overnight from 7.30pm-6am with a few short wake ups for feeds.

oh what fun NOT for you at night ..... does she still fit in the bassinet in the pram?
I used to just put my ds (he is now 16 mths) in the pram when he was your dd age and let him fall asleep in there if he was clingi but needed to sleep iykwim.
It worked well and he slept well and i just moved him into the cot and 9/10 there was no waking up from pram to cot....

I did this if at 6 or so pm and he was tired and had tired signs as you have described but just refused to be alone in the room..... oh and when those toothy pegs come through they can SO upset the apple cart ....

I would say she is just not needing that much sleep. Especially if she is still having at least two day sleeps! I say lucky you that she's sleeping that much!
I think 8pm is a reasonable bedtime at that age - if you want her to go to sleep earlier then I would try dropping a day sleep (especially if shes having 3)

From what I've been told it's more to do with total sleep in a 24 hr period as to what they need. So, what time does she wake from her final nap?? DD at her age now needs to be awake for 3 hours before she will go down for another sleep in her bed - so I wake her at 4 since bedtime is 7. She sleeps for 1.5-2.5 hrs in the morning depending on when she woke up but I always wake her at 12 on the days she sleeps longer for lunch and to ensure I can put her down at 3 so she can sleep for an hour in the arvo - doing this I haven't had any worries getting her to sleep at 7. On one night a week we go out of an evening at 7 and so I let her sleep for as long as she wants on that day for her day naps and don't wake her like I do with the other ones and on that day she'll usually finish her final sleep at 5ish - she won't sleep until 9 at the earliest on those days because she's had so much sleep during the day. Perhaps it's the same with your DD if she's having nice long day sleeps? HTH - GL.

Thanks ladies. I have tried dropping a day sleep and even on the days that she only has one day sleep she will still not go to bed any earlier. I guess I will just go with her lead and hope that she is getting as much sleep as she requires.

She is ticking all the boxes in her growth and although not crawling she is pretty much on the go and loves to walk around with me holding her arms and she eats like a trouper (unless she is in the middle of teething) so I guess she is doing AOK!
