    Anyone used baby probiotics?

DS is getting constipated - I've posted a different thread about that specifically so I won't go into details here. Suffice to say we've tried most of the recommended solutions and still problems are persisting. He's formula fed.

Talking to the natural health food shop today, they suggested a probiotic supplement suitable for babies that can provide some more gastrointestinal support and possibly help the problem.

Has anyone used one before? If so, what was the reason and did it help your situation? And which one did you use?

    TIA

We've had to use it a few times - when DS is on antibiotics.

We use the 'ethical nutrients' one for kids. You have to keep it in the fridge.

We put it in his yoghurt! It does help keep the #2's normal!!

You tried another formula? Charlie was getting awful constipation (screamy style) with one formula but we switched brands and she goes like clockwork.

we have used inner health plus powder for kids when DD had gastro...... not sure it helped but its worth a try. Especially considering it should be mixed with water. We find that on days where DD doesnt drink enough water she has quite hard poopies the next day.... she is obviously older then your DS though.

My MCHN and Nurses at the MBU told me to add an extra 10mls of water to the recommended mixture of formula and with summer coming along your DD should be old enough to have some cooled boiled water, if not now, then very soon.

The MCHN Help line has also advised to give VERY diluted prune juice 1 part juice to 10 parts water or a teaspoon of brown sugar dissolved in water..... these are temporary fixes though if it is a chronic problem maybe see a paed.

    That's what were after Nettie!!!

    Thanks all for your replies.

Smudgie - we're trying to get as much additional water into him as we can and we've tried the prune juice thing too. Trial & error really.

I'll get some probiotics and give it a go this week.

Bit late but yes, when Jazz was 4 months I got mastitis, and was on a heavy duty high dose, so was advised to give her the inner health kids probiotics that come in the glass jar and you have to keep refrigerated.

She wasn't constipated, the opposite actually, and it seemed to make her a bit more regular. Hope it works for you@

I had that problem with DD 1 and when I talked to the nurse she asked me what brand I was using (S-26), and she advised me to try another brand as sometimes some kids get constipated with S-26. I changed to Karicare and haven't looked back, started DD2 on it straight away when she started bottle feeding. Also the nurse said when I wanted to use the Inner Health Plus for kids to get a teaspoon turn it around and only use the amount that would fit on the end of the teaspoon handle for each bottle (mind you, not those big round handles just the normal slim ones!).
