Strain from carrying toddler...but he insists on being picked up!

I have this pain in my side, very tender when I press above my right hip. My dr thinks its a muscle strain or tear or the like from carrying around Peter, who is 11kg and growing. Has anyone ever got anything similar?

Now, obviously the best way to treat this is to rest it, but the problem is that Peter wants to be picked up ALL THE TIME and gives such a heartbroken cry if you don't. I've tried just stooping down and giving him a hug, I've tried carrying him differently. These work a little, but Peter just keeps coming over and putting his arms up with that sweet trusting look.

Any tips on how to make us both happy? Is he too big for some kind of sling?

    Thanks!

I still wear Alister and he is bigger than that. If it will give you some relief then it's worth a try. Alternatively you could try aversion techniques when he wants to be picked up, like say 'hold my hand and well go and get a book/drink/something to eat" and see if that works?

    I feel your pain!!!

I have a ring sling and wear Jazz who is 14kg. Its not the best, I still get a bit of strain, but the weight is spread out so its not so much.

I can wear D at 15kg and 3 years old...not ideal but definitely doable. I have a peanut sling and a meitei. She's good in both.
When I was preg with N I wasn't allowed to carry anything let alone her so we had to sit and snuggle or just hold hands. Diversion is good but she was a bit older than your little guy.
Good luck hun, hope it improves soon.

I still get this - and he's 2.5 years now!

I find for short trips, sitting him on my shoulders is great - the weight is more even and it doesn't hurt much at all (just watch out for low ceilings / lintels ) ... or my mei tei rocks for back carry
