6mo wheezing when excited. Would you see a doctor?
DD is 6 and a half months old. We're travelling overseas and I'm a little worried about her breathing.
She seems to be wheezing when she gets excited or breathes heavily. Only for about the last 2 days. My first thought is that maybe she has a cold, but her temperature is totally normal, and there are no other symptoms except her poos have been running, which I assumed was from starting solids.
The wheezing sounds very much like someone with asthma - like she is struggling to get her breath. It only lasts a few seconds at most and doesn't seem to bother her.
She is otherwise pretty cheerful, though not sleeping very well and sometimes getting upset at random things, which I have put down to a developmental stage, or the effects of starting solids. Now I'm wondering if she's sick.
Any suggestions what might cause this? Would you go to a doctor?
Just for anyone reading this thread in the future, who has similar questions, we did take DD to a doctor, who was pleasant and thorough. She thinks that DD has laryngitis. Apparently the wheezing thing and having a low-grade fever are typical symptoms. It's viral, so nothing we can do, but I'm glad to have taken her to the doc to rule out nastier things than that.
