    Normal breast changes?

    Hi everyone,

I'm almost 5 weeks pregnant (woohoo!) and I know that breast changes are to be expected, but I can feel some hard lumps on the underside of my breasts, did anyone else have this? Is it just milk ducts making their presence known? the underside of my bb's have been tender the last couple of weeks.

This is my first pregnancy and I'm trying to stay cool about the whole thing, but it's seriously hard, lol.

    Congratulations on your pregnancy

I would think it is probably normal changes associated with being PG, but I would get it checked anyway - it can't hurt. I'm sure it's all fine but it's much better to know for sure

    Wishing you a H&H 9 months

Please get any lumps checked, they need to be taken seriously especially during pregnancy & lactation when normal breast changes may allow abnormal changes to go undetected/ignored. The vast majority of lumps are not serious, but if it were to be cancerous, early detection and treatment is the most important factor in disease-free survival.

If your dr is concerned by the lump and wishes to investigate it further, you should know that an ultrasound alone is not enough to rule out cancer. An US in conjunction with a mammogram, a fine needle biopsy, or a MRI is more accurate than an US alone. I reported a lump in pregnancy, and was screened using only an US...it turns out the early cancer I have is *not* visible on US...two years down the track and the tumour has grown to the extent that i now need a mastectomy...7 cms long and *still* not visible on US. So please don't be afraid to insist on tests and don't let your dr dismiss your concerns like I did.

Good luck, I look forward to hearing how you get on at the drs.

    Hi Kitfaerie
The underside of my bbs were really tender too for a couple of days before and after getting my bfp, now they are just tender all over. But if your worried maybe get them checked out by your dr just to be sure.

Thanks guys, heading to the doc soon to get hCG level results, so I'll talk to her about it then.

I think it's worth getting checked out, with all the interesting new things pregnant breasts do I can see how it would be easy to dismiss and then miss something. Thanks for letting me know Marydean, it's really appreciated. Positive vibes for your healing!
