Which potty / seat did you use????

So I've just been reading some forums on toilet training and what I've gotten out of them is that I want to get a potty/seat for DS now so that he can warm up to the idea, But I'm not sure what will work best???

What did you use for your little ones???

When I was little I know we had the little potty shaped like a Turtle because I distincly remember hearing "Teeth and Turtle" every night ha ha

DD wasn't having a bar of the potty that sits on the floor (since she was 2years old i was going nuts), so last January when she was 2.5year old by then Target had a 25% off sale on all the potty/toilet training stuff and we made a big deal to DD that she was going to choice her very own potty and geez was she excited. We leaned her towards the ones that sit within the adult toilet seat. She picked the ***** Sesame Cushioned Toilet Seat ***** it's a soft seated bright green one with baby sesame street characters on it & she also chose a foot stool, normally there is one to match but they sold out so she chose a Dora the Explora red foot stool with non-slips underneath so doesn't slip on bathroom/toilet tiles or lino ... so she can reach the toilet on her own (when they are old enough of course)

I'm sure you can still buy this exact same one ... and they are so easy to clean (and the soft seat is comfy on the little bottoms whilst sitting for sometime doing a poo, LOL) !!

DS has a "toot and Tinkle" seat insert thing that goes into the normal loo. You can google their website for products.

we tried the cheapy potties that look like a bowl, they go on the floor.
we tried the Roger Armstrong potty from bigw that is like a chair with a tray shelf (for colouring in i guess)

my child refused to use these

once i worked out she was scared of sitting down backwards, scared to the little bowl one MOVING away from her, whilst she was trying to sit down (so she didn't feel safe or stable), i looked for a potty that WAS very stable.

i ended up getting a BOON potty (just google them). it can also be a seat for a parent to sit on whilst bathing your child, a step for the child whilst brushing their teeth/washing their hands, AS WELL as a potty. very clever design. it's alot broader (so very stable) and lower to the ground, so my very short child felt SO safe using it, she tt-d three days after we got the BOON potty! Once i got one she felt safe using, everyting "just clicked".

After that, we used it as the "car boot potty", so wherever we went, my DD knew i would stop the car anytime she needed the loo. (when they're tt-ing, they often can't hold on for 10 mins, or however long it takes you to get to your destination). So it was REALLY handy for the carboot. it has a drawer that slides out, which catches the wee.

they are more expensive than most other potties, but i found it very easy to sell 2nd hand.

i think different potties work for different children. it took me AGES of thinking "my kid just hates all potties, this will NEVER happen" before i had the lightbulb moment of "of course she refuses to use them, she doesn't feel safe" (and very little speech to tell me about it, so i had to guess so much of it).

i really like SMILES4U's idea of getting the child to choose their own potty, depending on how old they are.

i heard so much about "sticker charts for tt-ing", but found that didn't work with my 27 month old. She however loved getting a sticker on her hand instead.

and no bribes were needed, no lollies, no choc. when i first read about tt-ing, it seemed EVERYONE was using bribes. Might work for some, my child was so chuffed with herself for going to the potty, her own satisfaction was enough (and some stickers and LOTS of high fives, singing, dancing about in celebration). So every kid is different.

OMG, i remembered something funny my younger sister had the turtle potty on the floor ... he was actually called TOMMY TURTLE ... and my sister treated ' him ' like a pet, she loved her Tommy Turtle like you wouldn't believe

Thanks for all the replies!!!! Seems that there are alot of different ones that work for different little minds!

Will have to have a think and choose the right one, I just want to get it now so that we can get used to it and not experience that fear of jumping in the deep end!!
