Green Poo?

I'm sure this question has been asked a million times (but the word "poo" is too short for the search function)

Blake has had some weird green poos the last few nappies. The first was quite dark and a lot thicker in consistency than his usual poo - it reminded me of lawn clippings. Then the latest was avocado green and quite dry (compared to his usual pumpkin soup efforts). They are not "frothy" or "mucousy" which seem to be referred to when I google.

Any poo guru's out there?

Has he had any vax recently? Cause they can mess with the poo a bit.

The only other thing about green poo I know is that it's got something to do with an imbalance of foremilk and hindmilk.

Other than that, I don't know sorry.

Thanks Sterla - its been nearly 4 weeks since his needles...

We haven't changed feeding patterns - he still drains both breasts (he's a boobie monster) so unsure about the fore/hindmilk thing

Green poo can be a sign of over supply (lots of foremilk), but it can be from other things. Most likely it's to do with something you are eating - have you increased your dairy intake at all? In any case, as long as it's just the poo colour and no signs of discomfort, rash etc, there is no need to worry.

My DS had heaps of green poo (probably 4 out of every 5 were green) for a long time, but for some reason it has disappeared over the last few weeks. I tried everything trying to find an explanation, from elimination diets, to only feeding from one breast to make sure he got the hind milk, in the end I gave up because nothing made any difference... still don't know what the explanation is/was...

FWIW I have noticed that since I've been taking iron supplements my poo has a greenish tinge (sorry tmi)... Maybe iron is a factor in babies poo...

Anyway, my advice would be not to worry too much about it. All the advice I received was that it was nothing to worry about.

Thanks MR and Miss E, we have had another light green poo and his little bottom is quite red. I had Indian for dinner last night - maybe that's the culprit? He is well otherwise - so I guess I'll stop stressing!

I remember being told once that poo starts off greeen at the start of the intestine and then turn brown at the end. Well it should if it goes through the intestine at the right speed. If it goes through quickly it won't get the chance to turn brown or something.

Sorry I don't know if this helps - I remember it from reading this book about what you can tell about someones diet from their poo.

But american dieticians (in particular) are quite big on 'poo health' so I am sure there is heaps of websites about green poo and what it indicates.
