Not showing much interest keep offering or take a break?
Since she turned 6 months have been offering my DD finger food at most mealtimes, mostly she just plays with it and only occasionally does she put in mouth and have a bit of a suck - I don't think she has swallowed anything yet. It seems like if she gets it into her mouth without it touching her lip she will have a suck on it, but if it hits her lip she goes euwww and drops it. Her co-ordination is really improving and she is getting very good at picking things up but not really putting much in her mouth (unlike all non-food items which go straight in) - is it better to just take a break and just not offer her anything for a bit or to keep offering? I have Gill Rapley's book from library and the ABA booklet and so far have offered banana, avocado, broccoli, cauliflower, bread stick, toast, sweet potato, porridge.
She is not interested in being spoon fed at all she throws her head back whenever bring spoon near her mouth, she does like chewing on spoon if is holding herself but only once has removed any food from it.
Before she was six months, she would grab at all food but now am happy for her to have food she has stopped this - contrary madam!
She sounds spot on in her development. Sounds like she is making great progress. Make it easy on yourself - put a little of whatever you are having on a plate for her when you eat. Part of the process is learning to eat at the table with the family, and enjoy the social interaction that brings. Let her play/suck/nibble and be Ok with taking it way apparently uneaten at the end of the meal. she will follow your lead and eat in her own time.
It took a few weeks for DS to get the hang of it too. I would just keep offering as Barb said and she will eat when she is ready and there will be no stopping her. DS always eats breakfast and lunch with me, and his Dinner with both DH and I. Like you, it did feel like a slow start to begin with.
We're two months into BLS here, but it feels like longer seeing the amount of progress he has made in such a short time.
Allira was the same. I didn't think she was very interested. I didn't force her to eat anything, but I always offered her something at least once a day. After a couple of weeks, she really got into it and she's now on 3 meals and the occasional snack a day. She's now also spoon feeding herself which has just amazed me!
I'm sure any day now CJ will find a brand new interest in all things food and be scoffing it down before your eyes!
I offered food to my DD from 6 mths but she didn't get it for about a month. One day she just started gobbling everything down and there was no turning back! At the moment your DD is still experiencing food in all its tastes and textures, and she doesn't need it for nutritional purposes until she's developmentally ready. By letting her take it at her own pace she'll be able to eat when her digestive system is capable of handling family foods.
Thanks for the input will just continue what we are doing then , as is no hassle really as is just bits and pieces from our meals and if she doesn't eat then I get extra!
