    Nightlight Suggestions

DD has been acting up occasionally over the last few weeks at night. She will just lay in bed and half asleep cry out for mummy with little sobs, and keep doing it all night. At first we put it down to her having an ear infection, which has now cleared, then I though she might be teeting but that doesnt seem like its happening. She has always been a perfect sleeper with no issues, she learnt self settled at 5mths and has slept 12hrs straight since.

Then my mum said, how do you know she isnt affected by being in the dark. She does settle instantly the second I assure her I am there if she doesnt settle back to sleep herself. So I have put in a light nightlight to see if it helps, the last few days she has been fine but I am unsure if it is just co-incidence so far.

Wondering if anyone has been in the same situation and has it worked, not worked and/or any suggestions for a little girls nightlight (we are using a battery operated camping one at the moment). Thanks

We have had a lot of trouble with our DD waking since around 18months (now almost 2). She used to self settle and sleep in the dark but we have introduced a little nightlight and cuddly toys.

I think the toys have helped more than the light though. The light (sorry cant see what brand at the moment as she is in there!) is a little flat rectangle with a smiley star on it and just plugs into the powerpoint. Got it at Mitre 10 and costs 14c/year to run!

Our waking also started with illness and teething and I'm still not sure if it is age related or just a habbit from those times.

Good luck. I'm told they aren't like it forever

ETA: I think ours is a HPM brand too. Very dim light, enough to see where the bed and baby is but not disturbing.

We've just got the HPM moon light. A green non heating light that casts a moon light like glow to the room. Keeps it dark but just enough to see and reassure the little ones too.

We got Charlie a little soft yellow one because we didn't want anything too bright. was actually just from woolies. Also doubles as a LED torch if the mains is turned off and only switches on when it's dark. She seems to not panic now when she wakes in the middle of the night but prior she was SHRIEKING because she'd be alarmed in the dark!

When Alexzander was going through this we bought him a little clock radio that had a blue light on it. It was really good & most of the time the light of the the clock was enough without having to put the blue light on as well. The music (just the radio) helped to soothe him too.

We have given DD a touch lamp which she can turn on and off as she needs it. Some night it's not on at all and then other nights it's on all night. We have a low voltage globe in it so it isn't too bright when on. It is working really well for her.

Do you think it might be at all related to your pregnancy? DS started sleeping differently when i was about 8 months pregnant..

As far as night lights go Im not sure, we got one at the supermarket but its not very bright. The clock radio might be a good idea, my cousin did that for her daughter as well.

We have a little night light I bought from IKEA - called a SPOKA - google it, it looks like a cute little blob - anyway, you can unplug it at night and it will run off the charge so you dont have to worry about your little one with electricity, cords etc - they come in red, green and blue and give of a soft light, awesome and safe IMO Its a touch light of sorts, you just have to press it somewhere on top to turn on/off

Hint - the green one seems to give off the most light

I bought a night light for our bub (well, mainly for me, so I can see what I'm doing when I put her to bed) picked it up at kmart, it has a switch so that it can be made brighter or dimmer - whichever you prefer.

We have a musical light up sea horse that our son can now turn on himself. It lights up the room enough to see and has calming music. It plays for about 5 minutes. You can get the blue ones from Big W and Target but they have both blue & pink at K-mart.

We've also bought a night light thing from Bunnings which is a sensor one- it turns on when it has movement in front of it and you can set it to white or multi colour. We haven't actually used it yet though- we got it in case our son got up in the middle of the night when we recently transferred him into a bed- but so far he hasn't gotten out- but I'm sure that'll change at some point so will probably come in handy then.

I never considered my being pregnany something that might affect her, she is very observant and I swear she is sort of understanding what is happening. She has started playing excessive babies with her new doll in the last two weeks, rather cute, and is literally baby obsessed, on tv, in books, at the shops, at daycare.

I am going tomorrow to have a look at the seahorse ones, her new room is going to be underwater theme, or we are going to ikea in a few weeks and I did like some of their lights last time we were there. I guess for now we will see how she goes.
