    Heartbeat

Hi! Just wondering if anyone can tell me, we had our first ultra sound at eight weeks yesterday. They picked up the heart beat, 151bpm. I have read somewhere that once they have found the heart beat that the risk of miscarriage reduces heaps. Is this right? I don't want to get super excited only to find in a few weeks that it could all go wrong?
I am a first time mum and away from my family and friends so i'm felling a little lost. Any info would be great!
    Thanks

Hi Hun, we found our HB at our 8 week scan also, 160bpm - it's a great feeling isn't it?

Yes, I have read on many rescources that once you see/hear a heartbeat the chance of MC drops dramatically.

    Here is something I found.
If a baby's heartbeat is detected on the ultrasound, the risk of miscarriage drops to 4.5% for moms younger than 36. Risk of miscarriage after finding a heartbeat is 10% for moms 36-39 years old and 29% for women 40 or older. Women with a history of recurrent pregnancy loss have a 22% risk of miscarriage across ages.

Thank you!! Yes it is a wonderful feeling!! Sorry, it has taken so long to reply, I have had computer trouble!! Thanks for your reply, it makes me feel so much better knowing that! And seeing that little movement on the screen and knowing that there was a heartbeat in there was fantastic!! Although to be honest, it was very hard to look away from my husbands face during the scan, he was so wrapped, just watching the screen!!
Best wishes with your pregnancy!! I hope that it is all smooth sailing!
    Thanks again!
