    Alternative spelling opinion...

I think I have my favourite girls name sorted in my head....

    Madeleine..... BUT

I am wondering what what others opinions are of alternative spellings.

I was thinking of maybe putting some of my Spanish heritage in there by spelling it...

    Madelynn

Are there any other versions of it....or shall I stick with the old faithful way of spelling it!

Other names I have on my list are

    Lily
    Abigail
    Tabitha

Feel free to chuck in your opinion on those too!

The middle name will either be Louise (after my Sister & SIL middle name) or Eladia which is my grandmothers name.

    TIA

To me they have different pronounciations
Madeline - Mad-eee-line (last syllable is line, like straight line)
    Madalynn - Mad-uh-lyn

Hope that's clear!FWIW, I prefer the first spelling and pronounciation
I love Tabitha, that was on my list for DD. Eladia looks beautiful - how do you say it - E-laa-de-uh? or Eee-lay-de-uh?

Good luck, hope I was some help!

Thanks Yep...gotcha I know what you mean by the spellings make pronounciation sound different. I prefer the Madalyn pronounciation.

Eladia with english pronounciation would be, as you say E-Laa-de-ah, but the Spanish pronounciation is E-la-thi-ah. I love it too....

You could go totally Spanish with Magdalena...an old fave of mine .

I agree with what Dollyroux says about pronunciation.

Yep I like Madelynn. I think that's just something to be that little bit different.

On your other names, TBH Abigail isn't my cup of tea, and while Lily is nice, I'm a bit over it, its being used so much.

    I dont mind Tabitha though.

I LOVE Eladia. That is just beautiful. Yay for beautiful grandma names!

I vote Eladia too! I love Tabitha too. It's a pretty name. Just Eladia is ringing my bell, its pretty, it reflects your heritage, its unique so your DD will have her "own" name.

To be honest, I'm over Madeliene / Madalyn / Maddison etc - there just seem to be so many of them around. And I've got both a Madeliene & a Lily in my mother's group.
hope that didn't sound too harsh, its awful when people don't love the names you love..

Winter it's exactly what I want to hear!

I chose Madeleine, and DH chose Maddison, but I know more Maddisons so that's why it's taking poll position....

We talked about it last night, and we just don't want a name that is TOO popular. I only know one Madeleine, but she is a grown up! But know loads of Maddisons, as little kids...

We also decided that with shortening of names, we prefer

    Abigail shortened to Abi
    Tabitha shortened to Tabi
    Madelyn shortened to Madi

    In that order!

Ahhh it's all too hard....but Eladia is going to stick. DH won't let me use it as a first name, but anyone else who wants to use it...go ahead

In that case I think Tabitha Eladia is beautiful...and as you said anyone can use it, I'm putting it on my list, it's just goregous.

My mum always says that the minute the bub is put in your arms you should look at your DH and say "I want to name her X" and they'll agree to anything - so you could try that if you want so that you can have Eladia as a first name. Just out of interest will you pronounce it the english or spanish way?

I must be odd because when I see Madeleine I pronounce it Mad-a-lin. That is my preferred spelling.

    From your choices, I like
    Abigail
    Tabitha
    Madeleine
    Lily

    In that order.

Eladia with any of those names seems like a bit of a mouthful to me. But still a lovely name. When I read your first post I pronounced it E-Lay-dee-a though.

I'd probably pronounce it the spanish way, as that is the way I know it. Plus my Mum would probably wrap me over the knuckles if I said it wrong!!!

Of your favourites I think Tabitha Eladia flows the best, even though Tabitha is not my favourite of your list.
I'd pronounce Madeline like Madelynn, and Madeleine like straight line. I agree its quite common but still a beautiful name.

I love Madelynn spelt like that
    Madelynn Eladia
I do like it. I is a little long, but I think it works. & how often do you hear a middle name included when a name is called anyway?

How does it work when you yell it with the s**ts? lol. I always yell first & second name. See what you think?

Ha Ha I'll have to try it. I've never had to yell (I say that losely!) at DS who is Maxwell Benjamin....it's long but it flows better!
