I had sharp chest pains a couple of years back and ended up in and out of the emergency department because of the pain and difficulty in breathing... after lots of blood tests, ECG's and other tests, it turned out to be inflammation of the cartlidge between the ribs - which is more painful when you take a deep breath in
Not sure if that really helps, but hopefully it doesn't turn out to be anything serious

    Hi Shell
You should get this checked out. It is more than likely something simple like Belle said however it is also one of the signs of HELPP syndrome which is quite serious. Go and see your midwife. Today

Totally agree with Alan, go and get it checked. It may not be anything but best to be sure.

Thanks Guys, i had my blood pressure checked by my MW yesterday and it was all normal?

I have been having a lot of rib pain on my right side as well, which i thought was normal , and i know bubs has been kicking my rib, could this be what is causing the pain?

Could be just muscle pain (or cartilage) but always best to get checked JIC

    Hi Shell

I wonder if this will help you...

I have been having rib pains and also have normal blood pressure (actually I'm on the low side). At OB today I was told that the little fella is floating very high and pushing his bottom quite hard into my rib, the OB said "I bet that hurts a bit!" and he is right! The pain in my rib also transfers to the equivalent place on my back (ie "straight through"). It is much relieved if I press my fingers of each hand onto the painful spot on each side and circle my hips while breathing in a relaxed manner.

    Cheers

I had the exact same thing when I was 31 wks pg with DD - I presented to hopsital and had my DD in my arms (albeit briefly) the next day...

Get it checked out hun. Whilst I had the pains I presented to a GP and apparently my BP was 'normal' so I went to a hospital. Hospital made me provide a 'sample' to check for protein.

In the meantime put a wheat bag or hot water bottle on the pain - it provides temp relief but won't solve the underlying problem.

    Keep us posted!

    Hi Ali,
yes my pain can go right through as well, what kind of pain do u have, mine is achy burning feeling and then sometimes it feels sharp little stabbings.

I know that my bub sits high with me i can see the bump and she has her bum under my rib a lot as i can see and feel it .

Hi Shel, mine is a dull ache. Not stabby. It goes away if I rub it or lie down and rest (except if I lie in a certain position).

Certainly a lot of the other posters seem concerned about how you have described your pains - so if I was you I would get things checked out! It is possible to have HELLP / Pre eclampsia without high BP or with only moderately high BP. GL hon

If your BP is normal then you do not have HELPP. My next thought would be that the pain is caused by a combination of chest expansion and relaxin. During your pregnancy your ribcage expands in size. This can put some strain on the cartilage between the ribs. Relaxin causes all the joints and ligaments to relax. One of the many downsides to this is that your muscles may have to work a little harder than they are used to. Another thing that you may wish to consider is your sleeping/sitting position. Staying in one position for extended periods of time will put a strain on your body and this can lead to pain.

    Thanks Alan, thanks everyone

went to the hossie today as i started to get headaches was getting worse, BP was normal both times they checked it, baby was monitored and was very healthy and active.

They took bloods to check my liver which they will call me about , they said i was ok to go home but i did have some protein in my urine so we will see how the bloods go

I think that could be it Alan, as it hurts more when i sit or lay the wrong way , thanks everyone for your advise, and im glad i went to the hospital as its always better to be safe
