    A question about exercise

I've only just discovered that we are expecting again.
    This afternoon.
It's still sinking in... slowly. We are excited and shocked and happy all together.
I started an exercise program (just DVDs at home) a week ago. Just starting to get rid of my previous baby pounds! Anyways, it is a pretty intense cardio work out - about 30 min long. I'm definitely puffing and sweating through it. Can/should I keep this up? Like I said, I'm pretty new to it, and I know you're not supposed to start something new in early pregnancy. Should I switch to something
specifically prenatal? What do you think?

    Congrats on your pregnancy!

Re the exercise, I think I was told not to do anything that overheats you - so if you're not fit and getting pretty hot & sweaty... it can overheat bub too. I think there's also guidelines about heart rate as well if you want to get technical. If I were you I'd be sticking to exercise that you're used to doing. So if you usually run every day, you could probably keep running. But if you don't do that level of exercise, I'd recommend things like going for a walk or a swim. They're great for your fitness, will help your energy levels and are lower risk.

I've seen some preggie exercise DVD's, but heard various contradictory reviews as to whether they're any good or not. I know with things like yoga, there are some poses to avoid - so if in any doubt, I'd double check with your doctors.

Thanks Belfie. That's kind of what I was thinking. I'm not in terrible shape, but not great either. I hate to quit entirely, and getting out of the house 3 times a week for exercise just isn't going to happen. I think I'll ask my MD or midwife about a good prenatal DVD.

Congrats also to you. I'm guessing we're due around the same time. I'll need a dating ultrasound before I know for sure.

Thanks! You should come join our belly buddies group - sounds like you're due sometime between 15th - 31st Sept!
