Accuracy of a quantative test?

I had a BT done this morning to try to determine how far I am. I was supposed to wait for those results before booking in for the u/s, but I knew I'd be waiting a while, so I already booked it. Not til the first of March.
I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever know how far pregnant I am? The rage on the HCG scale is huge. How accurate could it possibly be? I wished she'd just sent me for an emergency u/s or something instead.
I don't know the results of the quantative test yet, hopefully this arvo, but I can't wait to see my usual doctor!

Oh this silly woman also tried to tell me I have to stop BFing right now Thanks Doc. Thats my choice to make. Not yours!

It can give a rough indication - iso for instance if it comes back at 3000 you know you aren't 12 weeks - but equally if it comes back at 300,000 you know you aren't 6 weeks - really only way to be sure is to wait for the ultrasound.

I dont think they are terribly reliable in determining how far along you are. Put it this way - at 14 dpo with DS my hcg was 97, with this one it was 760 so go figure? Bear in mind too that although your scan will be much more accurate it too can be out but +/- 3-4 days.
Silly Dr doesnt seem to know much about pg and b/feeding- maybe send her to BB so someone can set her straight

I know u/s isn't 100% accurate either, but more accurate than BT.
She did explain why she wanted it done that way. She doesn't like to do u/s before 8 weeks, because often before 6 weeks not much can be seen & she didn't want to cause unnecessary stress.

Maybe you could ask for a dating scan, and explain that you're aware that you may not see much but you would like something more accurate than just the bloods? I'm sort of in the same boat - I'm probably 50% sure of my dates, and the first scan I have booked in for is at about 12 weeks based on that, but I really don't want to be too far out so I'm thinking about requesting a dating scan in the next week or two. The hcg numbers are pretty vague!

Yeah. Well mine will be a dating scan, but I might ring my usual gp & ask him if there's anything I can do to get it earlier. Depending on what she says this arvy.
Will go get the girls & see if they have any answers yet.
