Had to share this - am finding with my current PG that the ongoing nausea is just turning me into a zombie. No vomiting (so I'm very lucky in that) but feeling totally non-compous as it was (and try commuting for an hour by train!?? Arrgh ).
So my doc won't give me an anti-nausea meds cos i'm not actually vomiting (and am allergic to maxolon anyway) but suggested I try Avil - very old fashioned sedating anti-histamine. Tried one yesterday afternoon and after being hit by the sleepies for an hour, was like a new woman for a full 19 hours. Just absolutely amazing how much better I felt.
I've also run Rodney Whyte at the Monash Drug info centre to find out how long the sedating effects last for - he confirmed it's safe in pregnancy (it's available over the counter) and also said I might find a 1/2 tablet more often doesn't sedate as much and may still be enough for the nausea. The only downside of course being very careful about when I drive. But the upside... feeling well enough to cook, clean, run after an energetic toddler... PRICELESS!
So just had to share this little gem with everyone - wish I'd known this in my last PG!
Avil rocks! I used it during both pregnancies for hayfever and started off taking 1 whole tablet which pretty much knocked me out! Wasn't a great look trying to keep your eyes and stay alert while working as a receptionist! So I started taking 1/4 tablet and seeing how I went with that and then if I found I needed more I would take another 1/4. So like Rodney said... give it a try and see how you go
