Gold Coast - best area for accommodation?

    hi all

we're heading to the gold coast in august for a week and are looking for a large house to stay in with my folks (who will also be babysitting for us ).

i've had a look at quite a few places - mermaid waters, on canals etc but i've really got no idea where the best area would be. we'll have our 2 and a half year old with us so we don't want anywhere that's hugely busy with nightlife.

    any suggestions appreciated!

best places would prob be around Burleigh, Mermaid Waters, Main Beach?
    there generally the quiter suburbs.
you could even maybe try Chevron Island as its walking distance to surfers etc.. yet far enough away from the night scenes!

I think the southern GC is the best for renting a house and having shops nearby and the beach but it's a drive to the nightlife. Burleigh is good because it is mostly walking distance to the beach, same with Currumbin and Palm Beach. Happy Holidays!!

Burleigh & Mermaid Waters are nice, not busy nightlife areas at all. The foreshore at Burleigh has playgrounds, BBQ areas etc. Do you want to be near any of the theme parks?

I personally have fallen deeply in love with Helensvale and the surrounding area. DH and I stayed at a caravan park/motel right across the motorway from Movie World last year and it was lovely. We also had a weekend in Runaway Bay for the Big Day Out and it was really peaceful, quiet, the neighbourhood was beautiful and it was quite easy to navigate around
HTH Enjoy your holiday, I LOVE the Gold Coast!

    thanks for all the suggestions.

we don't need to be near the theme parks but we'd like to be fairly close to surfers without the hustle and bustle. i had a look at burleigh and mermaid waters - both look great.

looking forward to the holiday! thanks for all the help!

We stayed at Ashmore last time we went to QLD. I loved it, it was only a few minutes drive to both the theme parks and Surfers. There were heaps of factory outlets in Ashmore too which won me over. It wasn't near the beach though.

The time before we stayed at a resort in Nerang. Loved it there too. I can see myself living in Nerang one day.

Thanks Mike. Our holiday was actually last August and we ended up staying in Mermaid Waters. It was great - walking distance to the shops and a short bus/taxi ride to town.
