    New born baby sizes?

    Hi All,

There is prob a thread already on this somewhere, but i am just wondering on what the average new born clothing size is

I know all bubs are born different lengths weights etc, but i used to think 000 was the new born average size and anything under was for a tiny bub but i saw something the other day that said 0000 was the new born size ?

WE have all the different sizes here just in case, but i am just curious as to know most bubs go into from birth?

    cheers

M was born on the little size at 2.8 kg so 0000 was a little big. Now at 3 months he is busting out of the 0000 and well into 000 and 00 depending on the brands.

DD was 8lb 1oz when born and only wore bonds cosy cuff wonder suits (feet and hands fold over) and marquise singlet or t shirt suits until she was 7 weeks - granted they are stretched a bit but they also lasted that long.

she is still in most 000 outfits but some things are getting smallish and she'll be 16 weeks this week.

Just remember though brands vary considerably in fit so start off with a few in 0000 have a little in 000 just in case and see how you go from there.

yeah it does, even the fits like 3-6 months can be massive and DD is 4 months next week and these clothes wouldn't come close and she is no light weight nor is she short

hhmmm we originally thought 000 was the typical new born size and have some of those but only a few 0000 ..I guess we can pick more up after she is born

Bonds wondersuits are fabulous, but they are tiny compared to other brands. 0000 probably is regarded as the 'new' newborn size now, but they grow so quickly that they really aren't in them for long. I would rather start off with 000 and know that they will get full wear out of it even if the sleeves are rolled up a bit LOL as opposed to buying clothes that fit perfectly that they will only wear for a short time.

That is what we did. We also got heaps of clothes as gifts once Mitchell was born so there wasn't a need to buy a great deal.

I had 0000 as the newborn size, but my DD was so tiny when born (2.56 kgs) that those swum on her. Fortunately we were given some 00000s as gifts afterwards and Mum came down and stayed and bought us some more. She was in 00000 for about 6-8 weeks.

It sort of depends on the baby. I would keep at least a few 0000s, even if bubs is only in them for a very short while.

Like others have said, every baby is different. But from anecdotal evidence, if both parents were big babies and are tall people, it seems the babies will be big too (assuming they are full term). Likewise, if both parents are short the babies tend to be smaller. A BIG generalisation I know, but it seems to work.

An example: I am 5 foot 8 (so not short) and DH is 6 foot 6 (MASSIVE) so our boys were both on the large-side and neither were in 000 for more than 2 weeks. I was given 0000 clothes as gifts but these went straight to the Salvos. (My eldest who is 4 in June is now in size 6 t-shirts LOL!)

My old girl was 5 pound 2 and 47cm long, the bonds 00000 suits were huge on her but my second daughter was 7 pound 4 and 48.5cm and she barely fit into the 0000 bonds suits. DD2 was only a kilo bigger and a cm longer then DD1 but it was enough to make her jump a size. But both of them fit into other brands 0000 easily for several weeks. Alot of the smaller sizes i had got passed to my sister and then back again so even if bub doesnt wear them much they can always be passed along to someone you know.

we also were in the club of only 000s. got the shock of our lives when DD was born at 2.7kgs and needed 00000. had to go out and buy a whole bunch of 00000 and 0000. she was in them for quite awhile...until around the 4 month mark too.

i reckon your best bet is to pack some 000s and some 0000s. that way if bubba is a bit smaller you will be covered and if bubba is a bit bigger you'll be fine too!

DD was 4.6kg and the one 0000 we had fit her for about a week - then she was in 000 and 00 after that for a very long time - past her first birthday for some things.

My DD was 3.4kgs and 48cm, 0000's swam on her at the beginning. She was in 0000 until she was about 8-10 weeks old then was in 000 for a long time. 0000 is definately the newborn size.

DS was strait into 000's. he was 7lb15oz but he was 52cm long - so it was 000's for his long body (like his mum ) we where given some 0000 stuff - but i couldnt get them on due to the shortness of the body part. i found the bonds coverall thingys (maybe wonder suites?) worked really well as they had a little more stretch in them. but in saying that DS can still fit into 00 shorts we where given but he's a size 1 in shirts - again due to the longness of his body. each bubba is different!
