    Anyone have dentures??

DH is going under general anaesthetic Friday to have all but 4 teeth taken out and they will be putting in his dentures straight away. Can anyone explain, won't he have stitches in his gums but yet they are putting in his dentures straight away? Won't his mouth be too swollen to even wear his dentures? Any information would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

    Regards,
    Dianne

hmmm, I thought they had to wait for the gums to harden up? Hopefully one of the dental nurses will see your post and help shed some light!

DF has them and he had to wait about 6 weeks for his gums to harden and heal before he got them. They prob want to do the mould and get it sent away to have it made... but as u said, his gums will be too swollen, so by the time it comes back, it wont fit. Ide be ringing them and asking them about it.

I thought you had to wait 6wks too. He has already had moulds taken and had his last fitting two weeks ago. They wanted to wait until his dentures were ready before taking all his teeth out.

He still wouldnt be able to wear them straight away... oww that would hurt. He will do more damage to his gums if he does..

Question... How can they take a mould of his gums with his teeth still in?

The majority of his teeth apart from the lower four have been broken over the years so he only has tiny stumps of teeth left.

Speaking from experience less than a year ago.
Yes, his teeth will be taken out then the new ones are put straight in. Yes, it is uncomfortable and he will not be allowed to take them out for a few days. It sounds worse than it really is, he will just be grumpy for the first day. Eating is great fun also, you live on soup and smoothies
Go and get from the chemist a mouth wash called Dentyl. It is wonderful and really takes the awful taste out of the mouth.
The swelling doesn't take that long to go and within the week he will be easily taking them out to clean.
He will then have a couple of months using a dental glue (name has just gone out of my head) until his gums have shrunk then he goes for another fitting to have them refitted to fit his gums correctly.
Make sure he takes that day off work as he will be without teeth for the day.

Hope this helps and answers some questions
