This is the first time I am sharing my story, Im at the stage where I feel defeated and I dont know what to do....I have a happy healthy 3yo little girl but I have had 3 recurrent miscarriages and I am about to have a 4th.
1st was at 7 weeks (found out at 10 week scan, no heartbeat - D&C was performed)
2nd was at 4wks 3d
3rd was at 10wks (again no heartbeat - D&C was performed)
4th Im now at 6wks 4d HCG levels and Progesterone levels very low (waiting for blood test results that I had this morning)
I had testing done on the cells for both D&Cs the first one came back as normal, the second had a chromosomal abnormality. I have had EVERY test under the sun (my husband has also been tested) and there is nothing wrong with either of us.
My OB has been very thorough with testing and monitoring throughout my pregnancies, but I have come to the point where "its just a case of bad luck" just wont cut it anymore. I have remained positive through the last 12 months, and I was just so sure that this pregnancy was going to turn out okay......
Im 34 and Im beginning to think that maybe my eggs are not viable? Has anyone got any suggestions? Should I go and see a fertility Specialist? Is there testing that can be done on a womans eggs?
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated I really dont know what to do.....
I'm so very sorry for your losses you have been through so much. I lost a baby due to chromosone abnormality and went on to have a healthy baby at the age of 37. I wish I could give you some constructive advice, I just want to offer you comfort and support. Wishing you all the very best.
Thanks Dianne, its nice to get some support from people who have been through similar situations. My friends have been great, but they just dont really understand what sadness you experience when you go through something like this.
I am sorry that you have lost your babies. My brother and his partner lost 4 babies, but have just recently given birth to their first liveborn. They were also unable to find reasons for why their babies didn't survive. However, they saw a chinese dr and used herbs and acupuncture firstly to get their cycle back on track, and then also during the recent pregnancy.
My other brother and his partner also found help through 'alternative' medicine after two late losses. And another friend with premature ovarian failure is also finding alternative medicine is working for her to get her ovulating.
Maybe a naturapath or other health professional might be able to help, along with your Ob?
hi alana,
welcome to bb and im sorry to read of your m/c's. my sister had 11 before finally having my nephew, her body was attacking the foetus and she had treatment (i can find out what) and after a full pregnancy on bedrest she now has a healthy 2 and a half year old. (shes not trying again) the only advice i could give is get a referral to a fertility specialist. i really hope you get some answers and one day hold your forever baby in your arms. huge hugs rach xox
Thankyou so much for your suggestions, I was actually thinking of going to down the alternative therapy route.
Kate - Im so sorry for your brother and his wife, losing 4 babies is such a terrible and sad experience. Which state do you they live in? Im in Melbourne, can you recommend a Chinese doctor/ acupuntre?
rachel, 11 m/c...that would have been heart wrenching for your sister .
Thank you both for your support....Can anyone recommend a Chinese doctor/ acupunture Dr?
My heart breaks for you. I'm so sorry for your losses and can somewhat relate to how you must be feeling. I have a healthy son (21months) but lost 2 babies before I had him, and one since. I am now 8 1/2 weeks pregnant, optimistic but fearful. I am 38 years old and was 36 when I had my son.
I found out about my first loss at my 12 week scan, baby had died at 7 weeks. My second loss was at 6 weeks. My third I was told at a scan at 9 weeks, baby had died at about 5 weeks.
As soon as I found out I was pregnant this time I headed straight for a naturopath. She has me on daily drops of a very small amount of progesterone (to encourage my body to naturally produce more) and an 'anti miscarriage' therapy. My Dr is monitoring my hcg and progesterone levels weekly, so far so good.
I would recommend trying to find a good naturopath, perhaps google it to find one in your area, or post to ask BB members if they can help.
Hi I am new to BB but I need somewhere to turn in hopes of recovering from my loss.
My husband and I have been married since Oct and began TTC right away. Even before we were married we weren't using any form of BC, so by the beginning of Dec we spoke with my gyno about help conceiving. We are young, but want a baby soon. I had a miscarriage in 03 at 6 weeks before I had even realized I was pregnant. We were afraid we would have trouble TTC due to the m/c, but in Jan I missed my AF and tested positive on Jan 26. We were ecstatic and surprised. We went in the next day to the gyno and she confirmed the pregnancy by doing an ultrasound to see that the sac was in place. It appeared empty by she said it was just too early to see anything yet (I was only 5w 4d by my calculations). She tested all my hcg and other hormone level. Everything tested normal except my progeterone levels were low so she prescribed Crinone gel. Everything went okay, we went back to gyno on Feb 9 at 7w 3d. Gyno said baby measured only 6w 4d but everything looked perfectly fine. We saw the ultrasound, we could see our little peanut moving and the heartbeating strong on the screen. I had no morning sickness, no cramping, no bleeding. Went back to gyno on Mar 2 at 10w 3d and the gyno couldn't find the heartbeat with the dopplar. She said that's not weird but let's do an ultrasound to make sure eveything is ok. I knew from the minute the screen came on something was wrong. I could see my peanut and she was so much bigger than last time but there was no movement and definately no heartbeat. The gyno said baby measured exactly 10w but the heart had probably stoppe 2-3d before. We we heartbroken. We went to the radiologist to get a more thorough US with the same results. My husband told me later he stood there staring at the screen begging the heartbeat to just show up. The gyno talked to me right away about having a D&C done, and I did the next day. Physically, I have almost completely healed now only a week later but emotionally I am still a wreck. I thought my m/c 6y ago was just a fluke and would never happen again, but it did. We want to try again and the gyno says we have the go ahead in a month, as soon as I get AF again. We have talked about it and my husband even the day of surgery says we will try right away again, but i'm very scared. I don't think I could stand to go thru this heartbreak again. Once we had seen the heartbeat at 5w we told pretty much everyone because everything seemed perfect compared to my first. Even my husband now says he's scared to have this heartbreak again but even more so he doesn't want to see me going into surgery again and having the physical pain on top of the emotional pain. I haven't even returned to work yet because I don't want people asking me about it an me having to explain. How can I help myself get thru this?
Alana, I'm so very sorry for all of your losses, it must be so heart breaking I would also recommend seeing a FS, they will probably do some tests. I'm 39, and was told that egg quality/quantity decreases greatly after 35. However, I did an IVF cycle back in 2008 when I was 38 (only b/c DF had a very low sperm count following a vesectomy reversal) ,and I was so worried that my eggs were old and crusty. I got pg on the first go, and when I had my 12 week scan they compared my pg (based on the results) to a 24 year old! So even though they tell you the statistics, it doesn't mean you're one of them (does that make sense??).
GL hun, I hope your next pg is successful x
Thankyou to everyone for your kind words of support
Maybub - Im so sorry to hear about your babies, but im so excited for you...keep positive I wish you all the best!
I must say, Im feeling a lot better today, I have numbers for Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture people who Im going to call today. I feel so much better when I have a plan in place, rather than taking the usual "its just bad luck" line and doing nothing.
Wndrgrl - I know how you feel and it is heart breaking. We had told a lot of people about our 3rd baby (which I m/c) and the best way I was able to tell them was via SMS. I couldnt handle people asking me if I was okay whilst I was recovering from my D&C, so I avoided all phone calls (except my closest girlfriends) and had wonderful emails and words of support from my work friends via SMS. I know this sounds really cold, but it was the only way I could cope at the time. Have you had any testing done yet? Once I had my second m/c I changed OBs and asked that they did testing as to why I may be m/c'ing. They may find something that is very simple to fix. Also you may want to try Accupuncture, this is my next step. Hang in there and dont lose hope
Thanks beata70, do you live in Melb? if so, do you have a FS that you can recommend?
Ive called my OB for my results and he wont be back in the office until this afternoon, this waiting is killing me!! Ill keep you all posted
Alana, I went through Pof. Peter Lutjen. He was my gynie for almost 10 years, and I always knew he was a FS as well, but I didn't think I would need his services one day! He was also my OB in 2008 but he does not do obstetrics anymore as he is a very busy man with FS duties. He does consults in Brighton mainly, Frankston, Bentleigh and somewhere else, I forget....Highly recommended
I am so so sorry that you are hurting so much now. it hurts to have to wait til tomorrow for results. I know what its like to be waiting for what feels like the inevitable to happen. It's pretty tough.
Uhmm, I have heard a lot of good things about Dr Sachs at Sydney IVF. He does telephone appoints or you can go up in person. He specialises in recurrent m/c and also looks for natural killer cells in your uterus, which can often explain early m/c. I had called him for an appointment for myself, but ended up not needing it. There is another Dr in Sydney who also believes in NKC. It is very controversial, apparently. Check out a book by Dr Alan Beer - Is my body baby friendly. it gives some good advice generally about recurrent m/c. I don't know of anyone in Melb, but I did hear about someone, but can't remember too much. Sorry.
Beata is an amazing woman, and I would give her FS a call, it can't hurt to meet him and see if you feel a connection and like him.
I had been going to accupuncture, but had to stop recently, because I wasn't well enough to go into the clinic, but am better now. The accupucture was to restore my health after my last m/c, build up the uterus and then to just support my chances of conception. I am really looking forward to going again. It is so relaxing.
Some people think that multiple losses are "easier", I suppose because you've been through loss before. In some ways I suppose it is, there is less shock and if the losses are close together, you remember the sorts of things that worked to help get you through, but at a much deeper level, multiple losses are totally crushing.
Take care of yourself and please seek professional help if you need it - a counsellor or psychologist who specialises in grief and loss and if possible in pregnancy loss. I found an awesome counsellor who made such a big difference to my healing.
I got my results yesterday afternoon and whilst my HCG level went up 1400 @ 6.5wks my OB stills thinks that it is very low so I am off for an ultra sound tomorrow. I am totally crushed. I am trying to remain positive but Ive seen this pattern in two of my prior m/c, so I know this road quite well. Does anyone think that there may still be a chance with HCG level so low?
Thanks beata - I will defenately contact Pof. Peter Lutjen if this pregnancy end in a m/c
Dory - Thanks for your words of support, I am just going to take this day by day and hope for the best
Alana - I don't remember enough about hcg levels to be of any help, sorry. I know its hard when you have experienced a pattern of symptoms before to remain positive. I am sending you all my strength and love.
My girlfriend has now had two pregnancys with levels "too low to support a pregnacy....." and one pregnancy was with TWINS! Dont want to get your hopes up but there is no need to talk yourself out of something before it happens. Will be thinking of you tomorrow and hoping to hear good news!
Im afraid that I have had another m/c, the ultrasound showed the baby at 5wks when I should have been 7wks. I am booked in for a D&C on Tuesday, but I have started bleeding this morning : (
The OB thinks that I have poor egg quality as this is my 4th m/c and thinks I should do nothing but keep trying...???? My plan of action is to begin Accupuncture next week and to start taking Royal Jelly, has anyone else got any suggestions? Am I able to have a healthy baby with poor egg quality? And isnt there something/ someone I can see?
