Advice- Big swelling at 37 weeks

i am 37 weeks pg tomorrow. i have had a fair bit of swelling (hands feet face) since quite early on, and had carpal tunnel syndrome in my arms. blood pressure always been fine.

this mornin i have woken up and i look like the michelin man. my forearms and hands are huge- more so my right and i can't open up my hands. i think my face is also puffier.

it's quite different to last night, does this happen to others, or do i need to get it checked out?

    thanks

I personally would get it checked- just to put your mind at ease if nothing else. Excess swelling isnt something to be taken lightly. Good luck, I hope it is nothing too serious and it settles down soon.

Go and get checked out, just to be on the safe side. While small amounts of swelling are considered normal, what you're describing sounds a little more serious.
Hope it turns out to be nothing.

oh hun go to the pregnancy assessment centre at the hospital straight away. Swelling is a sign of pre eclampsia which isn't something to mess with.

Yeah, it can't hurt to go and get checked out at the hospital pregnancy assessment unit.

I've had some pretty awful swelling over the past week or so - spoke to my Ob about it and he checked my BP etc to make sure it wasn't PE (thankfully not, just fluid).
Best to check though. PE isn't something you want to be dealing with.

    Hope you're ok sweets.

How has your BP been, and have you had any headaches, or Protein in your urine, it is usually a combination of a couple of these things and the swelling that is a sign of PE, maybe pop in and get your BP checked and see what that is like
    Take care xxoo

yes your right Beema, the problem is it can come on so suddenly that BP and things WERE fine last checkup, then they wont be the next week.

I had the beginnings of HELLP with Ashton, it was very sudden and effected my organs too! I was induced the next week.

    I agree with Missymoo.
A marked difference is swelling is one of the key signs. Even if it's nothing, it's better that you know that for sure.

Absolutely I completely agree that it can come on very quickly and be extremely dangerous, I have quite a few close friends who have had prems due to PE and HELLP, and they were induced within hours, so very severe cases. Which is why I suggested that she also goes in and gets checked out It may also just be a more extreme case of Oedema, my SIL went through just that 2 weeks ago.

Certainly not something to be messed about with, just adding the information about the other symptoms incase she wasn't aware of them and may not have made a connection

I agree, go and get checked out.

I was massively swollen with DS, puffy and full of fluid. My BP was fine though, but I never got noticibly more massive overnight IYKWIM.

I also had carpel tunnel with him and I couldn't open up my hands with that. It's not pleasant.

    Thanks for all your replies.

I went to the hospital to get checked out. They took blood and urine, blood pressure, and did a CTG and everything came back fine. The swelling has come down today, but is still more than i have had previously. If i get it again in the morning, they want me to ring and talk to them.

I have an appointemnt on Monday, which will be good to just get checked again.

My blood pressure has been good for whole pregnancy. Just had swelling.

Last night i had couple cups of raspberry leaf tea (for the first time). Would this have casused excess swelling? I forgot about it when iwas at the hospital.

    thanks for your concern,

    Kate
