doh just lost my post!
anyhoo, could you change the spelling slightly so it wasn't exactly the same?
I don't think it really matters though - a semi-famous comedian isn't like a Michael Jackson or Oprah Winfrey iykwim?!
Yes
No
What do I mean?
DH and I have come up with a name that we are fairly happy with. Its my grandfather's and his grandfather's name - both of which we never met in real life, but that we think sound really good together.
However, the first name in combination with our surname means that the child will end up with the name of a famous Australian comedian.
I have asked my both my BFS and a random stranger about the name, and they have never heard of the comedian. However I know that my family would know the commedian's name.
So my question is - would you go ahead and name the child this name, knowing that my family will have a quiet chortle about it? Our thinking is that in 20 years time this person will probably not be that well known. But we're not sure...

Your not talking about Kevin Bloody Wilson are you....lol
Look really if you both like it then it shouldn't matter then should it I so go for it not unless it is really horrible...lol
My nephews name is Jack Daniel, and after about 1 month the joke got old...although Mum recently gave them some 'Jack Lives Here' stickers
I think it really depends on whether or not YOU are gonna be bothered by it. My sister's not bothered by her son's name, it was picked because she liked Jack and our dad's name is Daniel, so she's at peace with her reasoning. DH and I love the name Indiana for a girl, but given that our last name is Jones, I just don't think I could do it. Different strokes for different folks y'know?
Just make sure you're happy with it, and anything else will just slide off![]()
I reckon if you like it, so what? Take it!
My son is named after three breweries - by accident! I did pick the most famous brewery as a middle name (this is the name combined with the last name), found out after we picked it that his first name (and our last name) is a smallish brewery... then after he was born, the second middle name (again, combined with the last name) is now a new, very small brewery! All in Yorkshire, where I grew up. Small world.
We don't get any stick about it, save that my dad reckons he should get a lot of beer for free now.
I guess it's not whoopi then...
I think it's fine.
the guy is only "known" if you are into a certain type of comedy - it's not like it's all over the place. i would guess you would use the full name where he goes by the shorter version. it's not like he is plastered all over the place. i say go with it!
It depends on who the comedian is I guess![]()

Haha
I think as he is not well known it doesn't matter.
When we were searching for names for DS2 I suggested Harrison George (my dads middle name and my grandfathers name) DH wanted George Harisson and I said no way to famous.
I'd probably do it.
My DS2 is known as part of a name of an Australian movie - which came out about a month before he was born. Lots of people chortled back then, but they don't raise an eyebrow now (4.5 years later...)
Go for it!
It depends who it is? WIll Anderson would be ok but Im not sure Id go for Paul Hogan
Seriously, its more important whether you and your partner like the name, not who else has it![]()
:yeahthat:It depends who it is? WIll Anderson would be ok but Im not sure Id go for Paul Hogan
It matters most whether you are both happy with it. If you are then go for it.
I think you should go for it, this name means a lot to you and has significance to your family, so I would take the punt that the comedian wont be that well known in 20yrs time
ETA - if it is the comedian that I'm thinking of, I still think that you should do it because it's not like this comedian is one that gets huge media attention for the wrong reasons kwim? He is a pretty likable bloke and I don't think that the majority of people would associate your bubs with them.
ETA #2 - or you will have a girl and it wont be a problem LOL

I agree with Trillian, If most ppl dont know the comedian who cares??
I think I know who it is, and is pretty cool, tasteful ect ect ect. I dont think your bub will have any problems with that name.
With the family connections to the name i would![]()
my FIL informed me after DS2 was born that there was a famous Actor in America called Tyrone (with our last name) so our DS is Tyron not Tyrone but just about the same....he is the only person who has ever picked up on that, i have since seen things on the actor but its never bothered us
