New here and have a question

Hello, I just signed up because I am having some weird stuff going on and was hoping for some input...

My partner and I aren't trying to get pregnant, I have been on the pill for 8 years. I have never had any side effects or problems from being on the pill, except the last year when I have been getting pms quite early, up to 2 weeks before I expect my period (which in hindsight could be because I have IBS and so mostly stuff passes right through me, making it less effective maybe?)

Before my last period I had some brown discharge, but didn't really think anything of it. Then had my period as usual, and as soon as it finished I got greasy, pimply skin, more than usual discharge (looks normal, just more than usual), sore breasts. And I thought my pms had started already, and was really annoyed.

Then the daily headaches started, and then massive bloating, then really bad nausea. Yesterday the food aversion started, and I have completely lost interest in sex (normally quite active) and I have the waist sensitivity thing going on, I can't stand for my belly to be touched, when normally I don't care at all.

Sounds pretty simple right, I am obviously pregnant. But no, I took a pregnancy test last week (over a week after my period ended) and it was negative.

Still accumulating symptoms, so I went to the GP yesterday and she told me it's probably the pill I am on, so she wants to put me on a different pill, despite me telling her I have never had any side effects or problems with it. She checked my eyes etc because of the headaches and she said everyone looks fine. She said my blood pressure was fine too, but I thought it was high for me. Normally it's slightly low, around 120/75, yesterday it was 138/83. She didn't even want to do a pregnancy test, but said she might do one next week if my headaches don't stop.

This morning I woke up and felt 'heavy' down there and crampy. I can see how the pill can cause nausea and headaches etc, but why would I be crampy etc if there is nothing in there?

But if there is something in there, how do I explain the negative test, which was taken at 6 weeks, if there is something....

Anyone experience their body acting totally pregnant on the pill, after being fine for years? I am considering going off it to see if the symptoms go away, but that means going off the pill, which I would rather not do...

Really hoping for some input here....

I'd do another test. Depending on your hormone levels it can take longer for a positive to turn up.

Also, it may just be the pill. Our bodies do strange things as they age and I know that I was fine on one pill for years and then suddenly it just wasn't right any more and was making me feel seasick all the time.

If the next pregnancy test comes back negative I would probably be taking myself off the pill and seeing if that makes a difference.

Good luck - it is awful not knowing.

I would do another test just out of interest. If it's still negative I'd be going to the doc and demnading a blood test just to be definite. My friend fell pg on the pill. She'd never missed one or anything. Then if the BT comes back negative like muppity said I'd stop that pill, see if everything cleared up and then try another brand. You haven't started taking any other medication lately?

I haven't started any new medication, or done anything differently lately, so it's very strange.

I think I will go off the pill and see if it clears up, and if it doesn't I will do another test. I'll need to go off this pill anyway to start a new one, so I guess no harm done. I don't feel like spending the money on another test and have it come back negative and then still not know whether it's conclusive or a false negative or what.

My GP even said being on the pill means I am not ovulating and so should not even be having pms...

    Thanks for your help

I still got pms on the pill.
For me my pregnancy didn't show up on a Pregnancy test until i was 6weeks. I tried three times before that and they all said negative.
When i first went on the pill it took away alot of the heaviness of my period and alot of the pain.. however over time the heaviness came back as did extreme pain (in bed for two days) and i hadn't done anything different. So i think that your body can react different over a period of time to the same pill - i would be asking for a blood test from the doc though before you go switching pills; just to be sure

    Thanks

Going off the pill today, how long should I give the symptoms to clear up before demanding a blood test? I am thinking early next week, as I am going to the GP for something else anyway.

I think I just figured it out... I have a period tracker on my iPhone which I have been using to track my symptoms due to the bad pms, and I was just looking through the symptoms to see if I have had anything like this before. It is made for people trying to get pregnant, so it shows fertile days and ovulation too.

And I found that in January I stopped taking the pill 3 days early because my pms was so bad and I wanted to get my period early so it would stop, thinking it was no big deal because I would get my period. I just read through the little booklet that came with the pills, and it said if you miss a pill in the last 7 days before taking the sugar tablets, you should start on the next tray, because you wouldn't be protected.

And just for fun I have also put in when we were 'intimate', which happened to be on Feb 5, which I have been suspecting would be when it happened, because it's the only date that fits.

But I thought the first day of that period was the 27th, which is why it never fit in the due date calculators. But it wasn't the 27th, it was the 25th that my period started that month, so my 'fertile days' would have started on Feb 5 (according to the app). Not Feb 7 like I previously thought.

But that would explain it, I just couldn't get it to make sense before. I knew it had to be Feb 5, but I wasn't supposed to be fertile that day...

Sorry if this got long and ranty, I just had to get it out...

lol.... if you skip any pill apparently there is a 24 hour period where you can get pregnant - i didn't know this... but my friend who is due in two weeks... her and her hubby decided they would start trying for a baby; presumed they would have a few months just to 'have fun' lol... she went off the pill and that day conceived lol....

i'm guessing a blood test is in order for you after alll??

Hm, I didn't know that either.

Yes, I guess a test is in order. Not going to the GP until next week because I am waiting for some other, unrelated test results, but I might get another home pregnancy test after all....

Surely at 7 weeks + it would be positive, if it was ever going to be??

yeh well it wasn't until i was in my seventh week that it showed up for me, so i'd say by then it should come up.

Just thought I would post an update. I went off the pill on Monday, then kept having symptoms so I was sure I was pregnant. Then I started getting my period, or breakthrough bleeding or whatever they call it when you are on the pill, but not much. Then yesterday all my symptoms suddenly all went away and today I am bleeding more than I have during a period in years.

So either I was never pregnant to begin with and it was all caused by the pill and I am having a weird period, or I was and I am now having a miscarriage.

Or, I am having a weird period and am still pregnant, in which case I will be back in about a month when I start to show

Thanks for all your help I will probably be back one day in more planned circumstances

Hi Julie. It might be worth going to get checked out just in case it is a miscarriage. It must be so frustrating having your body being so confusing!! Hope to see you around here some more
