Can anyone provide a cost overview?

We are weighing up known donors vs. unknown donors. While I know there are many other issues, other than cost, that's one thing that I can't seem to get a feeling of. If we were to use donor sperm (approx $200 per straw) and IUI insemination (not sure on cost) approximately how much per insemination? And is that one insemination per month?

We're really quite clueless in this area, as we were originally going down the known donor/ home insemination route, so spent a lot of time researching that.

    I welcome any thoughts

I can only take it from our costs, we paid $1000 per cycle. That was $200 donor sperm + prep fee, and $800 cycle management + IUI procedure.

Some pay a little bit less and others pay more I think. Best to ask your clinic though because fee's can vary so much.

I also paid around $1000 per cycle but my costs were the reverse... $900 for the donor sperm (USA) and about $90 (Out Of Pocket) for the cycle management/meds/procedure.
    Also a once-off registration of about $450.

    Ours was completely different again.
We are from Qld and our fees were higher than both Leasha and Shades so I guess it really depends on which clinic you go through.
These prices are from the beginning of last year, before the Medicare price hike, so not entirely accurate for right now.
The sperm cost $1060 per straw and the Insemination cost $1200 (got 80% back of Insemination cost once threshold was reached) and we also had to pay a once off registraion fee of $450. So due to these costs we only did 1 Insemination per month.

Thank you. We're still tossing up the KD vs. Anon Donor route, and cost is definitely only one factor to consider, but it's good to know the ranges.

im just curious about this so i hope you dont mind me asking, but ( i dont know how to word it lol ) does it worry you that your child does not know its father?

and what about the prospects of one day your child may end up with a partner that could be a sibling??? Are there any checks and balances for preventing such a senario?

how do you get your head around that when deciding to use an unknown donor sperm?

    Hi Peg,

If you read through a few topics in this area you'll find the answers, but I'll give a quick answer to your questions.
Jazz doesn't have a dad or a father, she has a sperm donor. No it doesn't bother me that she doesn't know the sperm donor. I hope she chooses to meet him when she is older though, because he gave us the gift of a daughter and she gave a portion of her genetics so it'd be nice for her to meet him and I'd love to say thanks.
I don't worry about her ending up with a partner who could be a sibling. It obviously won't be unknown that she has a sperm donor, so it's one thing she'll have to be aware of. But not necessarily more aware than myself, since my mum is adopted and doesn't know all of her biological siblings so i don't know my cousins.

so does that mean you know the donor and able to make contact with him if you (or jazz) wants to?

No, its an unknown donor. But Australia donor laws mean that the donor is able to be contacted, and able to contact Jazz, once she turns 18.
