I am new on this forum and writing for the first time so I am not sure, this sort of thread has probably been opened many times before .
This is my second pregnancy and I am currently approx. 8.5 weeks. When I was pregnant with my son I only got a little bit of morning sickness and taking vitamin b6 really helped, almost eliminated it entirely. This time, however, it started a couple of weeks ago and it is getting progressively worse, nothing really helps, taking ginger tablets did for a while but today I have been absolutely miserable. I don't think I've felt this bad ever (only when I had a really bad stomach bug). It was bad in the morning but getting worse as the day progresses to the point where I almost can't function . I know I probably shouldn't complain as it is all for a good cause but I just can't seem to get happy and "in tune" with my tummy because I feel so awful physically.
I would love to hear some stories about other people's MS. My friend felt really sick with both her daughters and the last preg. it didn't stop until 16 wks! That really terrifies me - how do people cope when it goes on for that long? Also, I've heard that with girls there is more MS - could that be true? (the friend I mentioned has 2 girls)
This is my 2nd pregnancy too and im actually feeling alot better with m/s than with my DS.
With DS I was vomiting every morning but thats when I was working full time. Im now working part time (2 days a week) and only feel sick when I have to get up early, rush around getting DS ready for daycare and drive the 50mins to work.
With DS my m/s didn't finish till around 16 weeks also.
At the moment when I feel sick I eat something straight away and then I (normally) feel better. Have only vomited a few times this pg so Ive been pretty lucky.
Hope it eases for you soon, just keep telling yourself it's a good sign that bub is doing well!
Hi and welcome to BB!
Congratulations on the pregnancy, although sorry to hear you are having such a rough time. I think the worst is not knowing how long it will last, will you be a lucky one that finishes MS at 10 weeks... or will it keep going... Stressful!
I found the best thing for me was taking it easy as tiredness really exacerbated the nausea, but, with another little one to take care of that is not really a possibiliy is it?!!? Still, try to get as much sleep as possible.
Otherwise, nibbles, snacks continuous eating kept the worst of it at bay.
It is also great to try some alternative medicines if you are able. Acupuncture is excellent for reducing nausea. There is a point just on the inside of each wrist that is an anti-nausea point. I have used it with friends who have had food poisoning, hangovers, general nausea and morning sickness and for all of them it has reduced their symptoms.
I say a Chinese Doctor regularly through my early pregnancy this time and the treatments really helped. I also sent a friend along who was suffering with MS and she said that midway through the treatment she began to feel better and began to feel really hungry for the first time in weeks. She dashed off to eat a huge meal after the treatment!!
If you can't get to see someone, (again it is difficult with a little one to look after) you can do acupressure on the points and can by "seabands" at the pharmacy. These are elasiticated bands with little plastic pieces in them which sit over the acupuncture points and keep pressure on them. They are marketed to people who suffer travel or motion sickness (hence the "sea" reference) but are great in pregnancy too. It is a great way to treat MS as it is natural and non-invasive.
You can find the point between the two tendons on the inside of your wrist. It is about 2-3 finger widths down from the wrist crease. Press it moderately for a few mins to see if you feel better. If you google seaband (under google images) or try 'acufinder p6' the first post should show you how to locate it.
thanks, girls, for your replies, kind words always help.
jackrose, thanks for the suggestions, i will try the pressure points and I've seen the bands at the pharmacy but didn't realise they could be used during pregnancy. I am lucky, my DS is already a school boy (turning 6 on Wed!) and it is so much easier with him being a little more independent. I can't imagine what I would have done with a little toddler running around and being this sick . So I really sympathise with everyone who is expecting and have kids under 5.
my DH just phoned and said he would pick up DS from school, leave work a bit early because he finished a project today. So I can lie down for a bit. I work from home which is also such a great help because I can allow myself to slack off a bit.
I feel so guilty for whining so much but can't help it, just feeling sooooo yuucckk..
Hi girls, thank you for your responses. I wrote a big reply earlier but for some reason it said it needed approval by a moderator , I think I just lost it..
Jackrose, thanks for the suggestions, just tried those pressure points and I think it does provide some relief! Will definitely be trying it tomorrow morning. And I have seen those pressure bands at the pharmacy.
I am lucky, my DS is actually almost 6 (birthday boy on Wednesday!) so he is a bit more independent now. Can't imagine how I would have done it with a little toddler running around.
I feel totally guilty for whining, I know how lucky I really am but I just can't help it.. physically I just feel so awful that I am starting to become a little depressed. I hope I can get some relief because I really want to bond with this baby. My son's 1st year was so hard, I don't want the same story to repeat.. Sorry, I am rambling a bit, I've had a tough day. Thank you for your support!
I am approaching the end of my second pregnancy, and have found that I got MS much worse this time around, but believe a lot of it had to do with being tired more, 'cause i didn't have the freedom to go to bed really early this time, and I am more likley to get woken in the middle of the night.
I also think that my organs have never really returned to their original positions and this could have impacted on the MS. ?? just a theory.
This time i got nauseous in the mornings and in the evenings and was fine during the day. This weant away in the middle, but has returned a little bit now towards the end.
Although I was fine during the middle, I found that while not feeling sick, didn't feel hungry often either, and have avoided red meat as it feels too heavy. I am also strugglling to take the iron tablets i'm supposed to be having.
On really bad mornings, really cold water has helped me.
I had no MS with DD, but this one I get it on and off, mostly in the middle of the day. I found that if I didn't eat breakfast I got it really bad. Eating in the morning keeps it at bay for me. Not very helpful though if you feel rotten first thing.
Hello and to BB I have found that acupuncture has really helped me, especially the mini ones that they leave in my ear. I have also taken herbs which the chinese herbal medicine man make up specifically for me. Hope that helps and you start feeling better sooner rather than later Oh also eating regularly helped heaps!
