    Contraception & NFP questions

Ok, so the other thread has got me thinking

DH & I have been using the withdrawal method which I see isn't very safe...and besides which we had a couple of oopsies in the last couple of weeks... so I guess it's best we start something else.

I am still expressing for Pie, and AF isn't back yet. Can I use something like the Billings method? Or does my cycle need to be back to normal?

What other contraceptives have you used that worked for you (by worked, I mean no PG but also convenient, few side effects etc).

Neither DH nor I really like condoms and I wouldn't trust the mini pill.

    Any ideas?

    TIA

    Re: Contraception & NFP questions

Billings method, although still flawed, could work if you were aware of your fertile times. You say af hasn't returned, but have you noticed any signs from your body that you are ovulating? You'd need to start temping and charting. I've heard quite a few people say that billings is probably better for GETTING utd than avoiding it, but if you are aware of the signs from your body then it Kay work for you. I think it was limeslice who mentioned diaphrams in the other thread, tbh if you don't like condoms (I don't, ick) or the pill (equally if not more ick) then maybe look into getting a diaphram fitted?

Thanks PZ I did think about it. You don't hear much about them these days... I don't know anyone who has used one. I wonder if you had to put it in before you DTD would it be a mood killer... then again it wouldn't make much difference ATM

Fleur I use one and it's pretty good... you do have to be aware though that they have a failure rate of 10-15%, but if you are using it in conjunction with NFP and possibly w/d at fertile times you should be ok . It doesn't really kill the mood as such cause it only takes ten seconds to put in - not much of a mood if that can kill it! LOL
Family Planning is the best place to get them fitted. Apparently it is quite hard to get hold of them these days but if you can get fitted for the right size you can order it on the net. Feel free to PM if you have any questions.

Well, a failure rate of 10 - 15% is probably better than what we are doing now....
I might look into that, it sounds like it might be a way to go, especially with NFP as well..

Anyone know can I use NFP if AF isn't back yet?
