    Helmet for plagiocephaly

Has anyone had any experiences with helmets used to treat flat spots? We are facing this with DS and I'm in tears just thinking about it. Just hoping someone can shed some light about it and how they coped with it?

He has had a flat spot since 4 months old. We've been giving him heaps of tummy time, sitting him up, tried sleep postioner things and a physio but at 6.5 months it doesn't look like its improving. Our paed today referred us to an orthotic clinic to get measured for a helmet.

Can anyone help, I'm scared its going to be traumatic for him but at the same time I want to fix it

I have no personal experience with them, but I know a good cranial osteopath can often amend a flat spot without being so invasive. Have you tried that yet? My own chiro/cranial osteopath really hates these helmets as she feels they fix the outer shape without worrying about the brain, wheras she sorts it taking into account the brain and spinal alignment.

A friends son had one for 3 months and he was no fussed by it at all, she was upset he had to wear it but was so happy with end results that she now doesn't know why she was worried. (he was about 6 months when he got it, she was impressed with RCH clinic that private pead refered her too)

    Good luck
