So Im packing up another load of out-grown clothes from my 1 year old (still cant beleive he's 1, but thats a whole other thread lol) My hubby saw all the boxes of old clothes I have stashed away and asked why on earth we are keeping them....so it got me to thinking, why am I keeping them!!!
So my question is, what do other people out there do??? Josh is our first child, and yes I am hoping to have more one day...but seriously my chances of a similar sized boy in the same season would be pretty slim wouldnt it??? Im interested to hear what you guys have done with your first born's clothes and if you would do it differently??
We got rid of lots of ds1's and tbh I really regretted it. We weren't in the same financial position this time around as last time and they really would have come in handy.
Even if you decide to be picky, I think it's well worth keeping a few things - you never know what's going to happen
I just keep the things I really loved. I was lucky in having so many boys that I did get to use them eventually. My first and last sons are 11 years apart but they still wore one or two of the same outfits
I sell the bin the gross stuff,op shop the hmmmmm stuff, ebay the good label stuff and keep my favourites.
I hung onto DDs stuff. No idea why really, but then my niece was born and we found out we were having a boy so all the really girly stuff went and the unisex stuff stayed.
DS's I got rid of straight away for different reasons but they went to my new nephew.
Now i have nothing for a small baby - we've gotten rid of all our baby stuff. Heaven help me if we are blessed with more.
i chucked all the cruddy stuff and kptal the unmarked or special clothes from DD1 incase we had another girl. Turned out to be a good move because we did have another girl and ive hardly had to buy anything at all for her.
Will be hanging on to them again incase the next is a girl too. but if its a boy i'll go through the clothes and sell what's sellable
I kept most of the good stuff, things that weren't stained or marked, its so lovley seeing Luke wearing a romper Jack wore, mind you my boys were born sept and oct so same season its funny though we still need to buy clothes for Luke all the time
I am getting ready though to give away or sell most of his stuff as we are done apparently or so DH says
I'll be holding onto all dd's clothes, they're in space bags on top of my wardrobe. i did get rid of a few things that she never wore or I didn't like them.
DS2 is the classic hand me down kid
My DH just the other day asked me to go out and shop for him
DS1 short and skinny DS2 Little and stocky. He manages to fit into most things still.
Some things are really hard to get so if I had them for DS1 I would keep them no matter what, like onesies without the envelope shoulders.
Things like socks and I kept DS1's old jocks for TT DS2 (very handy!)
I went through and picked all the best stuff and kept it, put it in boxes in the right sizes and anything else either got thrown out or given to DH to use as rags.
And if they were still ok just not what I wanted anymore...Salvo's.
I can see myself keeping everything!! I'll probably have other babies but I do have trouble letting go of things anyway. I always have a little cry when DS goes up a size
I have pretty much done the same. As they grow out of clothes the ones that are badly marked, lost shape etc get tosssed, ok things I donate to daycare for spares, and good stuff I have kept. I have lots of plastic storage containers full of clothes.
Luckily for me I have 3 boys, that being said even if you do have a baby in another season it might be a different size and you may still get some wear out of them. Better to still have them than get rid of them and regret it.
We have vaccume bags in every size for every season.
I have 3 girls, so everything has been recycled at some point. But #3 is definietly my last so as she grows out of a size I sell the name brand, donate the clean stuff and throw the rest.
I have started to be ruthless now, even with the bigger sizes and cull anything that doesn't match the rest.
I have kept a few of the nicer prettier clothes from our DD but everthing else we have passed on to other people. there is a web site we often post items on but im not sure if i am allowed to metion it. Its called freecycle (mods am sorry if this is not allowed)
Thanks everyone for your responses....very helpful indeed
I started to go thru the boxes of clothes...unfortunately for me I picked his newborn box first...found the outfit we brought him home in....well that was it, I lost it lol!! So Im keeping the lot for now
i've kept most of DD's clothes in case we had another DD, i've given some to my older sister for her DD, i've sold some the clothes and given some things to charity.
i have kept about 98% of everything.....2 boys....am keeping fingers crossed this one is a boy too! I have clothes for all yr round now as DS#1 was Spring and DS#2 was Autumn!
I kept DS homecoming outfit, and other nice sentimental things that have a nice memory attached (first Christmas, birthday etc) and nicer 'label' things that are still in good nick.
Everything else, stained or just not that special to me I gave to a friend who had a boy....she can do what she pleases with them too.
I will probably end up going through the boxes again at some stage as I know that Bub #2 is a pink one
I kept all of DD1's stuff in vaccum storage bags sorted by size. We ended up having another girl at the same time of year so DD2 has almost got no new clothes at all - saved us a fortune. They even wore the same going home from hospital outfit (which happened to be my going home outfit too)
