Hi all - just wondering if anyone can enlighten me. Please feel free to tell me I am being a big sook because I suspect that is going to be the outcome of this question.
The last few days each day I have been getting period like cramps that last for a few hours, they get quite bad and get worse but over the course of time but never quite go away. I must admit a little tiny voice in the back of my head did wonder if this was the beginning of labour but of course that is very unlikely since I am only 33 weeks. The cramps are painful enough that I can hardly walk around at times. The baby is still moving around quite a bit so I assume that maybe it is her weight pulling on something? The feeling ends up stopping and sort of feels like a stitch in my side before totally going away.
I don't think it's Braxton Hicks because I have been having them (or what I thought was them) with the slight pain but mostly just tightening and hard feeling of my tummy. This feels alot more painful and my tummy is tight, but it stays tight, it doesn't go away.
The little tiny voice in my head is telling me to be very worried because I am finding this pain so painful that I am getting quite worried about actual labour!
Hun I hear ya... I have been having this exact pain for over a week now... And you know mind hind waters broke last week... U should just be taking it easy. Mine died off for a few days but are back again today with a vengeance.
Generally those period like apins are muscles and ligaments stretching. Thats what my Dr told me. I had them for a few weeks, they slowed down, but seem to be back. And I know they are not BH contractions, as I have been having those too! Sometimes quite painful and my tummy is hard and is squishes bubs, who in turn kicks my ribs, and head butts my bladder - not an enjoyable experience...lol
But when you have your next appointment, just ask if you're really concerned!
Thanks ladies for your responses. I haven't had this feeling at all today so that's a good thing. I am not overly worried about the pains as they do go away and I can still feel this little girl happily moving around inside of me but that doesn't make them any less painful. Seriously worried about my pain tolerance threshold.............I better start toughing up!
Hi Starangelk, I have been getting the same sort of pains, I questioned my MW about it - she basically said to be concerned if I have, show, bleeding, waters breaking or if bubs stops moving.
The pain she said is most likely bubs descending into the pelvis.
My BH's were just just belly going rock hard for long periods of time and cramping, I got them from quite early on, I didn't think they were BH's as they didn't come and go, it was constant pain and tightness and I had to sit or lie down, and unfortunately it often happened when we were shopping in the mall
Bubs could be moving down and perhaps hitting a nerve or something causing the pain
You're still a lot earlier than I was when I got them with DS. I had them on and off for a little while in week 38 or so and then start of 39 I had 2 days straight of them and just thought 'o something will happen soon' and I became a real couch potatoe for those 2 days. Period pain had been nothing unusal for me before pregnancy so I wasn't overly concerned. My discharge increased too. Then the next night in the middle of the night I went to the loo and then thought I wet myself getting back into bed and wondered how given I'd just done the loo thing... that's when I realised it was my waters breaking. DS arrived the next day and the official time put on my labour was 5 1/2 hours.
Given it goes away, you're probably fine, but it could also be pre labour which can go on for weeks. If it's something you're worried about, get it checked out, especially at this early point in time - don't hesitate if there's a change in your discharge or if you have any sign of bleeding at all! And remember, it's the job of the MW/Dr/OB to listen to you and take care of you and your bub.
Meanwhile, with number 2 I'm getting them a lot more and a lot earlier and if it gets to the point where I'm worried, I'll be in there like a shot to get it checked out, even if I am pretty much over being massive...
Thanks everyone.....I figured it must be stretching or something. The pre-labour thought does concern me a little - as much as I want to not be pregnant anymore (ready to meet my little one) I am not prepared for her to come yet! Still got lots to do in the office and at home before she arrives PLUS I want her to be strong when she comes out. I am measuring at 35 weeks so a little bit ahead but I guess that is probably just too many ice-creams after dinner - I haven't had the feeling today but if it does happen again, I might give my OB a call and ask.........you are right Lewis's Mummy - I am paying them a fortune, may as well get my moneys worth!
