    salicylate reaction?

    Hi,
Just wondering about experiences of anyone who reacts to salicylates. The reason I ask is because I have been looking at Sue Dengates Failsafe diet book and although we are preservative and additive free as much as possible, we eat a lot of salicylates.
I looked at the list of high salicylate foods in particular and they are all foods that I absolutely love and eat all the time. It makes me wonder because Sue says the foods you most struggle to give up are the ones that are likely to affect you. I have sinus probs/hayfever/headaches etc.
How have you or your children reacted?
How did you identify the problem?
    Thanks

I have just finished reading that book also, because we worked out that DD reacts to grapes they send her nuts. We are not sure though if she is reacting to the salicylates in grapes or the natural MSG.
I think the only real way to know for sure is to eliminate them all from your diet and see how you feel then slowly reintroduce them and once again see how they make you feel.

You should have a look at a thread I started not long again called your tips for avoiding additives and preservatives, you might have something to add to that for all us newbies trying to do this since you also try and eat this way.

    thanks salad,
it is probably not ideal for me to do the elimination diet at the moment being pregnant which is a shame.I will try to give it a try afterwards though (might be a while because im not sure about breastfeeding and the diet either?) Will have alook at the thread . I definitely react to sulphites preservative 220's. Reading the book just got me thinking. .

Yeah it might not be a good idea to do it while you are pregnant. Good luck with it all though its hard enough already without having an intollerance to salicylates.

    Hi Aimz,
My daughter reacts with bad behaviours to salicylates but everyone reacts in different ways so it would be well worth the try when you can.
Check out the websites the Fed up book suggests there my be more info on there. Also if you email Sue she may be able to advise on if it is suitable to try during pregnancy or breast feeding.

    Good luck
