    De ja vu

Today I had the strongest sense of de ja vu. I was putting on my jacket and I had a flash of doing this action before, on my way to a picnic in the park (which is where we were going). I feel I remember having that experience as a premonition some time ago, but dismissed it because it was all too unfamiliar. But today I know I didn't recognize the premonition as a prmonition at the time because I didn't know then we would be in a new area (we just moved). Argh can't explain. Too weird.

Anyway- just wondering if anyone has any theories about de ja vu.

    TIA

I've experienced exactly the same thing as you...

You've explained Deja vu better than I could have. It's a premonition (usually in your dreams) of something that will happen to you.

You usually don't remember it until it's happening.

    Freaky huh?

I get it all the time and it freaks me out. I hope someone can say why it happens!

I get that quite often too, usually I'll be doing something then get the feeling that I've done it before, and it's so hard to pin it down, almost like the more you think about it the faster it drifts away, a bit like trying to remember a dream.

I get it quite a bit too, i remember when we first moved here i had a strange feeling that half of a day had played out exactly as before, but that was impossible as we hadn't long been here.

I would love to hear of any more... it's always interesting.

I googled it and it seems people who take drugs that affect your brain i.e. anti-depressants etc. and who have conditions like anxiety or other mental illnesses will suffer from deja vu more. It is like the brain is wired incorrectly. That's the theory anyway. It explains it for me.

Hmm never taken anything like that but i used to get panic attacks etc, maybe that explains a lot.

I am an avid dreamer and do get premonition dreams. They fall into 2 types, one is just like watching a scene unfold and they tend to be the deja vu moments that happen later. I am sure some have happened 20 odd years later! The silly thing is, whilst some are major moments, others are quite trivial and I wonder why on earth would I have dreamt about it.

My question is do we actually dream it previously or does our brain just give us that sense? I can't remember dreaming it until I have the deja vu. IYKWIM?

I have recalled some of the dreams. I find they are the dreams that I tend to recall quite well the next morning.

I find my deja vu moments often come at a time when I'm questioning whether everything is going to be 'ok'...when I get the deja vu it's like a reassurance that things are proceeding along the way they "should" be ...even if it doesn't feel like it at the time.

I've had some really wild ones, btw, regarding things occuring in places I've never previously been to (ie after moving interstate)...just another little way life is interesting IMO!

    Re: De ja vu

I get Deja vu occasionally... But usually only about trivial situations. I remember my first episode... I was about 10yo... Life was good, simple, it was before my parents split, no drugs or mental illness. It was simply about standing in a certain place at a certain time and having a discussion possibly about playing a game or a doll. I'm open to brain malfunctions or the metaphysical although it doesn't feel like a premonition... For me they are entirely different and do involve more important issues. I had a premonition about my DHs name when I was also about 10yo... A kind of knowing that the name would be significant (DH and I hadn't met) but not sure how. Nothing like the Deja vu feeling.

thats pretty much how I would explain mine too..

I can usually even remember what happened next in my dream, its so weird. For example I might have a dejavu of being in this house sitting where I am, talking to someone.. then I can remember what happened next in my dream (like being chased by a filipino drug ring..wtf would love to know what that means IRL) which is wayyyy different to what actually happens next IYKWIM ??

i get it alllll the time.

it gets so frustrating and distracting at times LOL! i have kinda conditioned my brain to 'hold on' to the de ja vu moment and can make it last a hell of a long time: to the point that i have once, articulated to DH what xyz was about to say and then listen as they say it DH hates it when i have dejavu...gives him the willies LOL!
