Thinking I might have a BFP (3 faint positive lines on 3 HPT's), but want to make sure i'm taking the right things just in case, while I wait to see a GP next week to have it confirmed.
So my question is, I take Blackmores Pregnancy & BFing multi which has Folic Acid in it, do I need to take a separate Folic Acid tablet as well, or does the multi have enough in it to suffice?
Can you take too much Folic Acid?
Is there anything else I should be taking also to keep baby healthy?
This may all be in vain if it turns out i'm not UTD, but i'd rather be safe than sorry!
Shell - It's funny you should say that because blackmores made me so sick with my first, I couldn't even stand the smell, but for some reason it hasn't been bothering me, although I've only been taking it a week now. Thanks
If you don't have a family history of neural tube issues (e.g. spina bifida), it is recommended that you take 500 micrograms (0.5 milligrams) of folic acid per day when trying to conceive and for the first trimester of pregnancy.
Check on the packet, but pretty sure that Blackmores contain this amount of folic acid and you won't need an extra supplement.
Women who have had a previous child with a neural tube issue, or have family history (self, sibling etc) are advised to take a higher dose of folic acid.
I was taking elevit & switched to the blackmores because it has the iodine which elevit lacks, your on a good vit, stay on it if it doesn't make you sick
Good luck for the next 9 months
In regards to iodine good point u do need it ,although i didnt need a supplement for this as i eat a lot of soy products which contains high amounts of iodine .
Read what you are eating as u will be surprised with the different vita ins etc in them that u wouldnt have thought they had
Hi I was the oposite with my first pregnancy as I took the elevit and they made me sick, and then I took the blackmores and I was fine with them and i wasnt sick at all. I didnt take any with bub #2 or 3 but I was really violently sick for the first 3-4 months, am taking the fabfol plus pregnancy vitamins with this pregnancy and I feel absolutley fab!! So I would highly recommend the fabfol vitamins as they have everything you need in them including iodine so you dont have to have any extra vitamins. Also I have heard something about too much folic acid is not good too.
