Endo removal and Lap Hystrectomy specialist in Sydney

Hi guys,

New to BB and have just been going thru the wealth of info available here about my condition ( Endo) and need some advice.

I was first diagnosed with endo around 12 years back, when we were trying for a baby and nothing was happening. Anyway, after a laproscopic clearnce of the endo and IVF, I got pregnant on the 2nd attempt and have a healthy 11 year old now.

Over the years didnt have any serious problems and as we were not looking at another kid, the endo didnt get a further look.

Then around 8 months back, the severe pains came back, and in the UltraSound they found a fibroid in the uterus and cysts or endo in one of the ovaries, and have since been on Provera, whilst i decide what to do next and getting inputs from various specialists. Currently am managing quite well with 15 mg Provera, but am not happy with the weight gain and the fact that at some stage one would have to do something more permanent with the Endo. I am 41 now.

I've been to Ken Atkinson (KA), who comes very well recomended, and he's recommended complete clearance - Uterus and the ovaries - and he does it the conventional way, as in not laproscopically. I have confidence in him,and his recommendation, however, would prefer to get it done laproscopocally, because of faster recovery times etc.

In my search for a good lap surgeon for this conditon, I've been to Michael Cooper - who again is well respected in this field - however our experience was a bit strange. when we met him he recommneded removing the endometrioma and adenomyoma laproscopically, but then went on to write to the GP that we go back to Ken Atkinson. So that was very confusing.

I've also been to Norman Blumenthal, and am currently booked in for a lap surgery a few months from now.
My main queries are -
1. Can I get some inputs on Dr. Blumenthal, has anyone been to him and done a lap hysterectomy, involving endometriosis. What was the general experience like.

2. Are there any other Endo specialists in Sydney that I should consider, mainly looking at a lap hysterectomy.

3. Should I be considering any other treatment before going for a hyterectomy, I'm 41 and we dont intend having more kids. The current plan is to remove the uterus and one of the ovaries, so hopefully I will still be left with one ovary.

I know I've thrown in too many details, just wanted to get as many inputs as possible, i know there's so much one can glean from your experiences.

Sorry I can't help much but I couldnt read and not reply.
My mum had bad endo and had a hysterectomy in her 40s, they left her ovaries in but failed to tell her she needed to have regular checks on them and she ended up with ovarian cancer which was very advanced when they found it.

Hope you have sorted everything out by now.
