    How would you pronounce Emmeline?

    Hi All,

How would you pronounce the name Emmeline? I'd pronounce it with a "line" at the end, but many sites online suggest the end of the name be pronounced "leen". Is this one of those names that the child will always have to be correcting people's pronunciation? I guess I just read it like Madeline... What are your thoughts? Bub would probably get called "Em" or "Emmy" anyway...

My first thought was a softer version of leen. (more like the lyn sound at the end of Caitlyn or Ashlyn)

Maybe because I have only ever heard it pronounced like that. I love Em or Emmie for short - so gorgeous.

    Either way is lovely.

I would go with leen. Seeing as it's french why not go with the original pronunciation rather than an english pronunciation?

I immediately read "leen", but then I thought "line" like madeline. I agree with PP, it's beautiful either way.

I do think that you would be forever correcting people but then again any name that's slightly different is going to be like that. I've had someone mispronounce "Isaac" anyway there's always going to be someone that gets the name wrong. If you love it, go for it.

    I'd pronounce it like lean.

If you want a line sort of sound the Madeleine is pronounced with the line sort of sound so maybe use Emmeleine. Though now I've typed it up it just doesn't look right.

I would pronounce it "line" but I know someone of that name that pronounces it that way. A beautiful name that was on our short list. Ended up going with Emilia though, and I am sure that she will be spelling her name her whole life as everyone thinks it is Amelia.
I am sure that I watched a movie with a girl called emmaline pronounced "line" in it recemtly, but i can't think which movie it was!
