    Christening

DH and I are considering christening our little dude... We both were, and we thought it would be nice to carry on tradition... We are thinking of having him christened on our 1st wedding anniversary (3oct) which is a sunday, and J will be 9 months old...
Do you think that this is too "old" for a christening? Is there an appropriate age that it should be done by or not really?
Is a sunday an ok day?
And how long did it take for you to organise?
How many people did you invite and did you cost you an arm and a leg or is it pretty much what you want to make it??
And what is exactly involved? The only one I have ever been to is my own and obviously I can't remember that far back XD

    Thanks ladies! xx

I didn't do my kids, but my friends didn't do their DD til her first birthday. I think alot of people are doing it about then now. To make a big celebration out of it.
I think I was 4 months old, my brother about 6 months, my sister was about 18 months. I don't think it matters at all when you choose to do it.

Not too sure what is involved. I'd go talk to your priest/pastor (whichever it is in your church). If you get in now you should be able to have that date. They will sometimes do more than one child at a time if others want the same date.

Afterwards my friends had the cake & a big BBQ for family & friends with the usual party nibblies & a few drinks Not sure on cost, depends on what you do & I think it'd depend on your church too. As far as I know the Catholic church is a donation of any amount (thats what it was for us to marry anyway)

There is no set age u could be few months old or years old, it's about parents deciding their child is joining Gods family so to speak then later in life that child can make their own mind and confirm their belief thru confirmation.
My DD's were both 14 months at the time and at DD2's she was youngest child there.
They had 3 being done on the day, the vicar gave nice talk on the meaning and history behind it, he really got all the kids involved he was great.
Afterwards we had a BBQ at home, usually the church asks for a donation rather than a fee for the service.
Call up your church, they will be more than happy to answer anything.
Oh and there is also the important task of choosing god parents.

Not all Christian religions require Godparents though. My gf had her Children Baptised (Lutheran) and none of the three kids have Godparents

I had my DD christened at the Uniting Church and it was very simple
There is no age but my DD was very young as she had to fit into the same gown I wore, my sister, my cousins, my mum and sunties and uncles and even my grandmother all wore it too and its a big tradition in our family
Some churchs dont require even a donation or a fee its a blessing they love to do for people.
My DD doesn't have godparents either as I didn't want conflict in the family and friends so we decided against it
