    What can I do?

My DS is almost 8 months old, and I was wondering what are the kinds of food that I can give DS that I don't have to puree??

Pretty much anything that he can mash in his mouth. Sticks of soft steamed veg, soft fruit, cheese, sandwiches, rissoles, sausages, rice. Really anything thaht you're happy for him to eat. There are a few things you should avoid for now, like nuts, popcorn, whole grapes and the like, that might pose a choking hazard, but otherwise maybe just try giving him a bit of whatever you're having.

    Anything!!!
Finger shapes are good so they can grasp them, carrot lightly steamed, broccoli florets, asparagus, even fingers of meat. We used to to give DD anything that we had for dinner if it needed a fork or spoon we just let her at it, strog was (still is) one of her favs, yes messy but fun!!

Thanks marcellus I was actually going through the dairy section of Coles today and was wondering if I could give him cheese. Now I know I can, I will definitely be giving it to him tomorrow

Thanks ezymay. I wasn't too sure about a few things we had, but you've made me more confident to give him whatever

Thanks Skye, will definitely have to give it a try!

Go easy on the cows milk products, especially cheeses, as it can cause tummy issues - the proteins are quite hard for LOs to digest.
Try a goat's cheese, goats milk is much much gentler on the tummy

But yep, anything and everything! I think strawberries and eggs, nuts if you have family history of allergies and anything that poses a chocking hazard you should avoid til after 12 months or so.

I also found for my DS that cheese was an acquired taste - he didn't like it till 18+ months or so.
    Have fun.

Ooh baby led solids is so fun Liz!!!! I just give Eden anything we are having (except for ones that pose choking risks - like apple, nuts etc)

But say, for breakfast she'll have toast and some banana (I just peel the banana, rip it in half and give it to her) or some pear (again, just cut it up like I do the kids in quarters, and give it to her) um for lunch she'll usually have a sandwich and some yoghurt, for dinner - just what we are having. We are having chilli tonight so she isn't having that cos the other kids don't like it, so I'll just do up some pasta and put cheese on it, they all love it. And for snacks, biscuits, crackers, crispbread with cream cheese on it - everything!

    Have FUN!

Skye, thanks - So one slice might be a good idea?

Thanks Marcellus, I'll keep it in mind. I'm guessing that if he doesn't eat any cheese now, to just try again later?

    Thanks Mel.
See, I'd been thinking bout giving him toast, but thought I shouldn't till he's older cause he wouldn't eat it, but you've reassured me that it's ok to give it to him.
What kind of yogurt do you give her Mel? Just the one you eat? And the crackers, plain ones? Not like Sakatas? Things like Salada crackers?
Oh, and I was advised to get Arrowroot biscuits, any other ideas?

I had noodles in a bowl a few days ago, and I gave him a couple and even though he made a mess of them, he looked like he enjoyed them

    Again, thankyou all!

Like all things, just keep offering till they accept it. It often takes quite a few goes before they'll eat some things. And then they'll love it one week and then refuse it the next.
On bickies and things I'd just suggest avoiding very sweet or salty things. They don't need the seasoning and you just end up giving them a taste for it. We gave DS lots of rice and corn cakes as snacks, as they're pretty much just rice or corn.
Instant noodles are one of DS' favourites. Oh, we tried to keep him on natural, whoel foods when he was little... well that sure did go out the window.

Toast is one of the first foods I give my kids, either with vegemite, hommus, avocado - anything but Jam and peanut butter. Yoghurt, I just give her the kids ones - but not the baby ones cos they're just a rip off. I figure yoghurt is yoghurt, but a lot of people just give natural yoghurt with hardly any sugar. I'm on my 3rd kid so I'm pretty lax about some things

Biscuits - she has ginger nut biscuits (loves those), milk arrowroot, teddy bear biscuits - um, and crispbread, or premium crackers - she's not really fussy - and neither am I.. LOL

I gave her watermelon for the first time today and she loved it. So fruit is always a big YES in this house. She loves fingers of fruit, so like pear, watermelon, rockmelon, banana - kiwi fruit is a bit too slippery yet. LOL

When my baby bonus goes in, I'll have to stock up on alot of fruits and buscits (and possibly yogurts)

Marcellus, I have a few thin rice cakes which I eat that I think I'll give a try later after he stops grizzling
